Hello everyone, im *extremely* new here as it was this very morning I recieved my confirmation
This forum seems to be different from all the others, and in saying that I hope to recieve more help here Well Ill begin by telling you why Im writing this thread and then tell you why I need your help Me and a small team are working on making a Flashed Based RPG. It is currently in its beta stage which will consist of two basic maps and test all the functions of an Rpg. For example it will test out movement, interface, monster, Npc, quest etc But the problem we're facing it coming up with a name for the game. As we're busy working on this game, we dont really have time to sit down and think one up. Which is where you guys come into play ![]() Ok, enough of the history, Ill tell you what I request of you: I want you to throw a bunch of names for an Rpg at me, but they have to be of the following: 1) Two - Three syllables long as to not have people stumble over the words 2) Extremely easy to read, so people dont have to 'decode' the word 3) The title has to refer to the world in which you play in. So for example the game is called "game", and it takes place in the world of "game" I would like the title to refer to something *in* the game, but as were only in the Beta, we're not sure as to what that will be, so forgive my lack of detail. Anyways, thats my request, I hope I can get some good names! Thanks on behalf of the team -Matt- |

Well it would make little sense to think up a name when you have no concept for the game yet. Rather an employ all that rapid prototyping I think it would be a good idea to sit down and develop plot and story. Then once every detail is planned out (including name) proceed with actual development. I could think up a few "cool sounding" names such as "Shadows of Alchmaion" or "Tales of the Winter" on the spot, but I don't think I'd be doing you a favour really.
EDIT: Just some brief neutral non-sensical suggestions Shadowlands Battleaxe Mythic Gold and Glory [ 10-07-2005, 08:33 AM: Message edited by: mad=dog ]

Well I guess I forgot to explain one thing
*Hangs head in shame* Anyways, this Rpg will take on the characteristics of an Mmorpg because one day we hope to make it so As you all know, these types of games really have no story since a story has to eventually end That is why that title needs to refer to the world in which you play in, that way you dont need to know the story or concept of the game It makes it easier ![]() EDIT: Also, the suggestions you give me will be part of a list of other names people have come up with. From there I will have people vote on the best one I like Alchmaion, Ill add that to the list, many thanks -Matt- [ 10-07-2005, 08:37 AM: Message edited by: Ostil ] |

You better name the game when it's finished or near being finished. Alot of games just have a "working title" during the production and development of the game.

Yes, the game's name will most likely change, but then again we just might stick with it
![]() Anyways, these are good names so far, thanks, Ill add them to the list As for the style of the game, it will be medevil/fantasy It will have it share of mythical creatures and characters ![]() Drakilor - Thanks for the link, Ive bookmarked it. Its a great site -Matt- [ 10-07-2005, 08:56 AM: Message edited by: Ostil ] |

Indeed. Just call it something neat as a placeholder name. Like "Blackhammer". Doesn't mean a thing and easily replaced.
MMORPGs even in Roguelike form takes SERIOUS database coding. Just a fair warning. Making a standalone roguelike game can still be nice and a huge claim to fame. Take Angband or ADoM as examples.
