My favorite program to use for DVD back-ups and to make MPEG 4 files for my PSP has been sued out of existence. It was one of the best, and oh, so FREE! I have made 3 different back-ups of the install EXE just in-case.
![]() So... while DVD Decryptor will never have another update, It will be used by me to rip DVD's I paid for and OWN until it can no longer crack newer encryption technologies or I get sued out of existence myself. R.I.P. DVD Decryptor ( and my fair use rights) You will be missed. Read about it here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11914

Yeah, but it sucks for the guy who made it much, much more than it sucks for me that is for sure. Livelyhood crushed- for what? I never saw piracy advocated at the DVD Decryptor site. This wasn't some shady operation but a handy powerful software tool.
I, on the other-hand, have 2 other decryptors/rippers, both capable, and more are available. I like DVD Decryptor the best. [ 06-08-2005, 11:12 PM: Message edited by: Chewbacca ]

I use DVD shrink, If you have updated ASPI drivers you can bypass any protection too, plus it shrinks the movies...Oh and it was shut down ages ago...but they are still releasing new editions

the Electronic Freedom Frontier, great resource for help with overzealous use of copyright law as it applies to the digital realm, and a very interesting read.

Also, http://gnu.org - similar motivation to Morgeruat's link, but specifically about software. See specifically, Why Software Should not have Owners, What is Free Software, and Misunstanding Copyright.

Heh I almost have to prefer EFF, primarily since it was created because of Steve Jackson Games (makers of several lines of role playing games, such as GURPS, Car Wars, Toon, and a couple of CCG's like Munchkin and Illuminati) as a byproduct of an FBI raid that almost killed the company over the Cyberpunk game.
