I'm being told now that my spending limit is almost up, and that I need to become a verified member to continue using their services.
Is anybody else here a verified user of PayPal? I'm kind of skeptical about giving up my bank account number to some website. TIA.

I am and have been for about 3 years. I've never had any problem with Paypal as far as my information (bank account and credit card).

I'm verified and have had no problems. I actually went the premeir account route and got the free debit card with a 1% cashback bonus. I pay my Ebay fees with it and earn some back.
Some things to watch out for is if you sell and recieve payments through Paypal and someone does a chargeback and you dont have the paypal funds to cover it then paypal will tap your bank account if the charge back is successfull. Adhering to the Paypal seller protection policy is the way to protect against this. Another danger is if someone hijacks your paypal account they can get indirect to your bank funds. I use a seperate checking account for I set up just for paypal as a hedge vs the risks. Also using strong, unique, and just plain weird passwords help. I change mine weekly and regard emails from payapl and ebay with the upmost of scrutiny and suspiscion. Never click a link in a paypal email and never reply to an email asking for any ort of account or personal information. If you recieve suspicious email concerning your account type the paypal url directly into your browser to check your account and change your password promptly. All in all I would say using paypal is only slightly more risky than using a CC online. Using common sense and understanding the risks will go along way to keep your funds secure.

W/e you do, make sure you don't give your details via an email allegedly from Paypal. Do everything at the paypal.com site only.
I am the same, unverified and never had a problem with spending limits.

Well a little risk for such a great convenience is not so bad right? I think Chewy's is the best idea: just set up a new bank account ONLY for paypal use, with a small credit/overdraft limit and just enough scrilla in there to cover whatever you're doing.
