Couples lock lips at kissing festival

MANILA, Philippines -- Thousands of couples got Valentine's Day celebrations going early, locking lips at midnight Saturday in what organizers dubbed "Lovapalooza 2."
More than 5,300 couples kissed for at least 10 seconds last Valentine's Day in Manila for an event known as "Lovapalooza," breaking Chile's record of 4,445 in the Guinness World Records book.

This year's event was aimed at "a million kisses, a million heartbeats, and probably a million people falling in love the second time around," said a statement from toothpaste maker Unilever Philippines, one of the event's organizers.

The kissing festival was held simultaneously in at least four cities nationwide. Despite the large crowds, the figures appeared to be well below the target.

"We're not beating any record this time, we're building a tradition only," said Unilever's Mia Fuentes. "A lot of people have been wanting to go and relive the whole thing."

Cheers erupted from the crowd along a Manila bayside boulevard as fireworks went off over Manila Bay when the couples kissed.

LOL, I thought this was going to be about one of those kissing contests, where they all just sit there, with their lips locked, for hours and hours, to win a car or whatever LOL.

This past New Years they had the annual car contest where about 6 or so people gather around a car, and have to constantly be touching it, and whoever can sit there touching the car the longest wins the car, it goes on for usually about 2 days. I always wonder, if determined enough, could I do it? I can go easily without eating, and I always figured I'd just lay down on the floor and wrap my legs around a tire. Seems a lot easier than standing up, but then again, maybe the rules require you to be either standing up, or at least sitting upright, dunno. But if not, I swear I think I could take it LOL.

LOL! No cars in this one, that I know of! I saw one of those contests in our mall once. Last guy in the Jeep won it!

But they didn't have to kiss anyone! HAHA!

a local radio station used to ahve a car kissing contest to wina car. they stopped after a while tho.

cute story. i wonder if some year nathan and i could take a trip for it! add to the numbers.
