Help! installing World of Warcraft

K, so I FINALLY got a copy of World of Warcraft and, surprise surprise, Bob (my computer) is being difficult, and the game seems to be helping. So here's the deal:
I install the game, but when I try to get the game going it says I either don't have DirectX 9 or that I need a new video card. now I know my brother is playing this game on his computer that is older than mine and hasn't got an updated video card, so the problem must be DirectX. so I try installing and restarting my computer 3 times to get DirectX 9, never works. so I go on the website and follow their instructions of copying the info directly from the cds to my desktop and try installing it from there. still doesn't work.
well I figure maybe I'll just try setting up the account. so I go on the website to set it up and put in my authentication code, then I get an error message which basically says that code is already in use. but I just bought this, how coud it already be in use??? so they suggest to return it immediately to the store or contact them by phone. ya, this was at 11:30pm, so they're both a no go.

so, after trying everything once more, I've given up. Advice anyone????? and is this game worth it?

DirectX9 refers to a set of shaders included in modern graphics cards. You can install DirectX9, but if the game demands those shaders, and your card dosent have them, it wont work. Its pretty poor design, since its not that difficult to make it fall back to DX8 or even DX7 level, which will work on just about any half-decent graphics card. Even a G4MX has DX7.

Which kind of begs the question :- which graphics card do you have?

On the authentication issue - thats bad. I would get the game installing, and then if it still dosent work, take it to the store.

im not a wow fan.. but as a MMORPG fan.. yes its worth it

1) where would it say what my graphics card is?
2) what is MMORPG?

1) When you first power on your machine, the graphics card will put some text onto the monitor before the CPU and BIOS wake up. Or, if you go ito control panel and find the device manager, that will list everything install on your machine. Or, the litreature that came with your PC really should tell you what graphics it has.

ok, so I got an account all set up and everything, and the game is installed (I think) but I still can't play it beacuse either DirectX 9.0c can't install on my computer or my video card is out of date.
now I'm prepared to check out new video cards and all that, but has anyone else had problems with installing DirectX 9.0c? I've gone through the entire installation process several times but after rebooting it isn't installed. what up?

Are you sure it isn't installed?

Where did you check?
