Thought I would make a thread dealing with the issue. As many of my fellow veterans will know, there tends to be a tendancy for newcomers to not have the latest official patch for their Baldur's Gate 2 game. They suffer from game bugs and ask for help from us when a simple visit to any of the official sites( or a quick search on Google) would have given them the latest patches and most probably solve their problem.

Why? Why do gamers not try to see whether there is a patch for their game? Games are rarely made perfect, and patches are common and considered part and parcel of gaming.

Anyway, I hope the title of this thread will lure as many relevant newcomers as possible so that they can patch their game first to see if it solves their issue. Of course, there are the Baldurdash Fixpacks which are lesser known and harder to find, so bugs covered under them are understandable, as the official patches do not resolve them.

If you do not have ToB installed, get the Official SoA Patch first, then get the Baldurdash SoA Fixpack v3.61.

If you do have ToB installed, get the Official ToB Patch first, then get the Baldurdash ToB Fixpack v1.12.

Happy patching, may it solve whatever ails you. If it does not, let us know and we will try to help you as best as we can.

~~ADD] I go to sleep now.

Call now and we'll not only send you the latest patches, we'll ALSO send you the Sola mod, free of charge!

I think that we should bump this thread.. but also rename it: Patches, Kangaxx, Imprisonment: The solution to all problems here!

Though people would still ask for help, despite the aid here..

I've got an annoying bug even though I have both patches installed. In Jaheria's quest were she is poisioned by Baron Ployer I go to the government district to talk to someone to see if they know anything about mages and before I talk to someone a mage appears outside and starts talking to me about how he can help me even though I'm still inside the government building and haven't talked to anyone yet. Any ideas?

Whats the problem? You miss some boring conversations, but talking to the Mage solves everything anyway. Unless my memory is screwed.

Oh and Ive though for a long time that a sticky thread covering these basic issues and common questions (or even links to same) should be in each thread. Of course Sticky Threads were uninstalled sometime ago, maybe there back with this new upgrade?

There isn't really a problem it's just a weird bug. I know it's not a fatal game bug or anything but no bug is a good one. I just hope I don't discover any more. It would be good if I could fix it though.

If there were sticky threads on Kangaxx, Firkraag, et al; there would then be other things people would ask oconstantly, so we`d have to make THEM sticky, then more things come, they`re stickied, add infinitum.
The sticky feature, when enabled, the mods use for forum rules and mod rulings. Things like the "On Spoilers" thread would be probably be stickied if they could be. ATTN: (inserttrollnamehere) would be stickied for a short time, but help with specific quests realy couldn`t be stickied; because where would we stop ??
In the roleplaying forum, there used to be a sticky thread with a listing of all IW clans, but it would not be logical to sticky, say, the HADB Clan current thread; same thing with specific quests here.
Some things can happen, but logically shouldn`t-stickying quest help is among them.

I say that there should be a sticky thread on Kangaxx, Firkragg, Imprisonment, the gems you need in ToB, the Twisted Rune, Celestial Fury, links to stronghold and romance questions, and Dundee's sig. Let's call these the primary topics. Anything else can be posted, no? If your theory is correct, it implies that people will come up with new parts to be stuck on because I just now listed the common problems.. If all of a sudden there are new problems not covered in the sticky thread, and so many get posted we want to make THEM sticky, we now have secondary topics. Where in the Nine Hells would they come from? If they're not so common they're part of the primary topics, then did people suddenly get stupider and get stuck on easier things?
And to take that a step FURTHER, that after we solve the secondary set of problems in a sticky thread, now we'll need TERTIARY topics! These topics must be things we rarely get (partially because we get so many Kangaxx questions) now, so people are now getting stuck on easier and easier things, becoming stupider and stupider.. Wow, I feel so powerful! We can actually lower the average intelligence in the human gene pool!
I see what you're saying, though.. That the secondary and even tertiary topics are out there.. just watered-down in primary topics.. So the solution is... um.. Link to a micromanaging walkthrough and just bullshit about chars and such? I dunno.. My head hurts from all this thinking. I need to go lie down and have some elverquiist.
