spoiler ubb tags - question for webmaster

I just had a glorious idea but I don't know enough about UBB code so I'm not sure if this is possible. [img]graemlins/uhoh2.gif[/img]

Concerning game forums (after all BG2 is how I got here

)
I find scroll-down spoilers much less effective than the Ctrl+A spoiler hiding. Would it be possible to create UBB tags like
[spoiler]I spoiled all your game fun haha[/spoiler]
to do the same thing we now do with "font color="

If this was possible I think it would be a great idea for the game forums. :thumsup:
If however this cannot be done with UBB, well never mind

IIRC that was already proposed but IIRC Z said that he can`t do it,but he is looking for such code.

I don't know much about UBB, but is it possible for a a UBB tag to set the background and foreground to the same color? If so then it could be done.

What would be required is for someone to hack into the UBB parsing engine and add a function to handle the new tag. While the new function itself would be rather simple, making sure all the proper hooks are there without screwing up the rest of the engine is a bit more tricky.

IIRC, UBB autologs all Jscript use as a hack attempt. So, not such a good idea after all

This thread (it's a bit dusty [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) has the tag for "invisible text," which is just coloured text, with the colour being the same as the IW background.

[font color="#3C301A"]Your text[/font]

Replace "[ ]" with "< >" respectively.

Larry pretty much said it though; having invisible text would make people have to Select All, to see if anyone was writing secret stuff about them.

People can write 'hidden' messages now without the ubb tags.

Of course, making a tag out of it will make the thing more accessible and easier to use; but then if you're tagging anyway it shouldn't be hard to add markers indicating where the invisible lines begin and where they end.
For example, [spoiler]I'm invisible[/spoiler] might read as | I'm invisible | or something.

The problem is that it becomes visible when quoted.

That's not the problem, but yes it is something to keep in mind. 3C301A-coloured text will also work better on the dark background than on the lighter one (but it's still difficult to read). The simplest solution would be not to quote spoilers, or to edit them out. If you could have the tags set text colour to background colour that would be even better,
