my buddy and I had like a 2 hour email argument over this. he thinks AI would be bad. Evil computers taking over the world. The whole terminator apocolypse theory type thing. I think It would be awesome for mankind. believing in the good nature of everything not human. I think thinking computers would be a boon to us. What do you folks think?

I think it's worthy of a thread of its own. Simply out there, relying on people's good graces to do no wrong... AI will cause grief. Give it rules to protect against those, it can be better. Any system has a way around it... just ask a child. The path can be found, no matter what. It's just a question of how hard you make it for people to get there.

scary stuff indeed.
have any of you guys read Butlerian Jihad of Frank Herbert (prelude to dune?) It is related to thinking computers and how they took over. Also the terminator and matrix.. are we coming closer to a catastrophe or a revolution?
