I was watching on T.V. (still on) an old james bond movie with sean connery called "Diamonds are forever" or somethin like that, its so funny and messed up. I spent most of the time laughing at it, its bizarre. The movie starts out with some stripper lady next to bond. Bond then kills her using her own bra, then the scenes skip to this part with a dude in a mud pit and bond kills him, then this other man comes and he gets killed. Then you see a white cat with a diamond on it or something. The movie is soo F*ck*d up. I really like the scene where bond runs into an area 51 moon simulation thing and steals the landrover and is being chased in the desert by cars, then steals a mopad are somethin like that and its the size of a tricycle. There is also this girl that looks like reeba... My fav part was also definately where bond is in las vegas and being chased by cops into a dead end. BOnd manages to get his car driving sideways through a small crack and escapes. All in all, these were the themes i was able to get from the movie
Reeba Diamonds Bond keeps switching accents white cat everyone dies via drowning in a pool right outside a window Having a bow-tie on makes you a person in disguise Mud Lasers. Lasers made from diamonds (i think) |

It's a James Bond movie, what do you expect
![]() What about in the latest James Bond movie, Die Another Day, Mr. Bond rides a tidal wave after driving really fast on thin ice, as a huge solar beam chases him to the edge of a cliff! ![]() Far fetched...yes ![]() [ 08-09-2003, 02:10 AM: Message edited by: GokuZool ] |

a lot of things in the latest Bond movie were ripoffs from earlier ones.
I'm not talking about deliberate "cameo appearances" of certain gadgets or hints to old movies like the Ursula Andress scene but the whole story. The Diamond Laser satellite was from Diamonds are forever, the laser torture from Goldfinger, ... While Diamonds are forever is not the brightest movie of the series "Die another day" is awful (it wouldn't be if it had ended after the ice palace scenes). Also - watching old Bond movies keep in mind that these are action movies in a time before today's action cinema (starting with Die Hard and Terminator) was established - This is what sometimes makes them look awkward.

Actually, the beginning of Diamonds are Forever picks up where the last movie ended. Blofeld is the head of the organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E., whose plots Bond foiled in the other 5 movies before this one. At the end of the 5th one, Bond gets married, but the movie ends with his wife being murdered by Blofeld, who escapes. Thus, the beginning of the 6th movie, he is hunting Blofeld. They don't tell you this, so if you didn't see the previous movie it just looks like he's killing people at random. Blofeld is the guy with the white cat (played by Donald Pleasance, if I remember right).
Thus, there is some logic to the madness, but I must admit Diamonds are Forever is probably the worst of the Sean Connery Bond movies. He really did not want to be in it; they talked him into what at that point started becoming a very campy set of stories (and it shows in his acting). Roger Moore took over after that movie, and the first two with him were good, then the studios execs got a hold of the franchise again and made them into comedies (like Diamonds are Forever). Every Bond movie since they added Pierce Brosnan has been an action movie, rather than a spy movie, that's why none of them are all that great. They are pandering to the masses. My advice: PUT THE POOR SERIES TO REST, ALREADY!

They would return Bond to being a "spy" movie, but when they tried that in From Russia With Love it was most forgettable. Although fancy gadgets and seductresses have almost nothing to do with actual "spy" work, they make for a really great movie. Remember that these are only movies, so they have nothing to do with real life.
That being said, Die Another Day did push movie believability past the point of being ridiculous. A laser in the watch--yes; an invisible car--no. ![]() Like Faceman said, you have to put the older Bond movies in the context of the time during which they were made. When they came out, they were spectacular and exotic. As movie audiences have become more mature in their tastes, the movies have had to raise the bar to keep up, which is why Bond movies have become action movies set in reasonably exotic locales.

I like Pierce Brosnan as bond -- I think he really looks the part. And, I think he can act as well as a script would demand. Agreed, it should be more stealth and spy oriented, with a little less OTT stuff.
Roger Moore had some great plots to work with, but I just can't like any of that sniveling little girly-boy's work -- he ISN'T Bond. |

First things first
Ernst Stavro Blofeld in "Diamonds are Forever" is played by Charles Gray who some might know as the Criminologist from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Donald Pleasence played Blofeld in "You only live twice" Sean Connery's last movie before his comeback. "On his Majesty's Secret Service" (Lazenby's Bond) Blofeld was played by Telly Savalas (Kojak). In all other movies he's in Blofeld only makes short appearances and his face is concealed.

...and second things not to be forgotten
IMHO "From Russia with Love" was among the best Bonds if not THE best ever. The early Connery's were great, producing classics like FRWL or Goldfinger but his comeback in Diamonds is indeed pitiful. Not because it's a bad movie but because it doesn't suit him. Connery's Bond (and Lazenby copied that in his one appearance) was a tough but elegant guy with a rather cynical humor. Roger Moore's bond is far more comedy and so is Diamonds are forever although it's with Connery. I didn't think the series was going down until "Die another Day". Goldeneye gave Bond-fans great hope of return to the old values: witty action and classy ambience to tell the story. But while "The World is not enough" was also a remarkable movie among the new ones "Tomorrow never dies" and "Die another Day" were totally Bond-unlike mindless action movies. Anybody seen "Johhny English"? (not a great movie I know) The chase with the DB12 on the tow car was far more Bond than the ridiculous chase on the ice lake filled with rockets and MGs for Die another Day. Actually, Goldeneye did give me promise of something of a return to the earlier, Connery era stories. Unfortunately, I felt Tomorrow Never Dies was mediocre, and the last movie was complete action fluff. I see all over the place people stating that Lazenby did a bad job as Bond. Now that I go back and watch it years removed, I really believe he did a pretty good job with what he was presented with. However, Connery defined the role, and to have him try to follow that up (and worse, to have Connery come back immediately afterward) was a death knell. Roger Moore, like I said, was good in the first two with him because they kept close to the Connery plots. Then they turned into comedies; if I wanted to see parodies I would watch one of the James Bond spoofs that are out there. Anybody want to talk about Dalton? ![]() Anyway, I did think that From Russia with Love was the best of the Connery Bond films. And I think that they lost out on something once they showed Blofled's face. He was much better as the mysterious, enigmatic villian in the shadows, stroking his cat while talking about world domination. The hidden threat is always more sinister.
