Malone ? Payton ? Eeeerm, isn't there something like a salarycap in the NBA ? Cause i don't see these two guys wear a golden jersy for a minimumwage. And i also don't see Shaq and Kobe agree with a lower salary, just to make it possible for Malone and Payton to sign a contract in L.A.

"And i also don't see Shaq and Kobe agree with a lower salary".

They don't have to.

This is copied from the article:

Payton's agent "He could have taken a lot more money to go somewhere else," Goodwin said. "But he's going to Los Angeles to follow his dream."

Malone, a two-time league MVP, reportedly has said he'd be willing to take the veteran's minimum salary -- $1.4 million -- with the Lakers in order to have a chance to win his first NBA championship.

A veteran's minimum salary is 1.4 million Dollars ? What a cruel, unfair world.

Anyway, the addition of a couple of old farts won't give them that little extra they're gonna need to stop the new and improved San Antonio Spurs.

Very unfair. How can a man live with such a low salary

We'll see next season.

By new and improved I guess you mean if they get Jason Kidd, because if they don't get him they are going DOWN.

He's one of the main reasons of the Spurs succes. Except for the finals, where he choked a little, he was the team's engine all the way through the Western conference.

But it would be a good deal if san antonio got Kidd as well. But i was more referring to Jermaine O'neil as a replacement for Robinson. He's developing into a spectacular player right now, and could form an unstoppable duo together with Duncan. If the Spurs manage to get both players, the Lakers have a problem.

Sorry, I don't get on general discussion much, so I kinda left you hanging. You're right, if they get Jermaine they will dominate. I'm just not much of San Antonio fan. Big Duncan fan, but not the rest of 'em. Now Kidd is staying with NJ and they are adding Alonzo Mourning too. They'll be nice if Zo is close to 100%. Some more East teams need to make some moves, it would be nice if there were at least a couple more good teams over there. Just one or two besides NJ, that's all I'm asking.

Well, if Lebron James is really as good as they say he is, we should hear from the Cavaliers pretty soon. Especially now they have coach Brown, the perfect teambuilder. I'm expecting the Knicks back in the playoffs this year as well.

But for the rest i'm afraid we'll be facing a few more years of western conference dominance over the east.

Btw, there's also rumors that Rashard Lewis might join the Spurs. Another interresting move is also about to happen. Michael Olowakandi is expected to sign with the Timberwolves. Olowakandi/Garnett.... that's a nice front court.
