Which way to go? SPOILER!!

I have entered Baldur's Gate and talked with the Captain fo the Flaming Fists who wants me to gather info. on a group...The compound is located in the Southwest he says...and so after the conversation I kind of expected to be able to access the city...but NO. There are a couple of new areas that opened up, but I think they are realted to TOSC. How do I actually get 'into' the city? Is it that I have to head the right way??? From the bridge???

Over the bridge, yes. I found it rather deceptive at first; at the end of the bridge you turn left and go through the gate, which I thought was a wall. Just a little ambiguity in the graphics.

It's almost impossible to see. From where the possible NPC is go due west and there will be a spot where you can pass through and the you can enter the city from there.

Wow...I may have wandered far and wide before I tried that closely! Thanks for the information. I am now in the city.
