I wonder what you guys thinnk of girl who play computer and ps/xb/gc and that kinda games?
I'm a girl and I play kinda much games, some ppl I meet over the internet think I'm bein treeted like a computer-nerd, but I aint. How do u react or think of a girl that plays alot of games if u meet her at the internet? You think she's bein' bullied? She's ugly? She's got a hard time? Or do u think she's just like everybody else?

i've always just thought of them as a rare kind of normal person. maybe a very bored normal person. i haven't met many(if any) girls who like to play computer and console games. i mean i've met the occational girl who likes the sims or something like that but not any proper female gamers.

That sterotype is getting old-fashioned.
Two of the people in my circle of friends are girls who play games on a regular basis, one of which I find to be attractive and who I currently going out with Neither of them are labelled as nerds or geeks, times are moving on. In Gibraltar playing video-games isn't considered a nerd activity anymore, especially now with the introduction of games like GTA-3 and Vice city ![]() So no I don't think a female gamer (or any other gamer for that matter) is bullied or consisdered a "nerd" (does it really matter if a number of people label you as a "nerd" if you're doing something you enjoy anyway?) simply because of her gaming activities, but because of other factors. She's just like every other person. Before it used to be OK to believe that the only people playing videogames were kids between 10 and 14 playing games at every possible moment, the social image associated with us gamers is improving but it has not yet reached it's ideal status. LOL, nonsense... where did you think all the women on this forum came from? I can't think of any of the women here who don't play computer games or didn't sign on here initially because of a game. It's not as rare as you think, though admittedly men still are in the majority.
I don't see what all the fuss is about anyway - I don't find the idea of a gal liking computer games weird at all. Apparently my boyfriend is hotly envied by one of his colleagues - ever since he showed the guy my photo and told him I loved computer games, he seems to think my boyfriend's the luckiest bastard alive. ![]() ![]() Edit: the nonsense comment was addressed to the "rare breed" thing and to the initial post, not to Sigmar's reply which was posted while I was writing, and which I fully agree with. Congrats, BTW ![]() [ 06-19-2003, 05:21 AM: Message edited by: Melusine ]

As gamers they aren't really that different and share a lot of common traits.
They are in minority, but that's about it. There is a difference in how many girls are active in different gaming communities, but weirdly enough this have little to do with the actual games. Rather some gaming communities are very hostile to girls. A lot of young gamers have some kind of macho-trip running and are too inexperienced to know what is acceptable fun and what is over the top. It is kinda sad to see a dedicated 14 year old female gamer being scared away by some juvenile asshats coming with indecent advances. I think it is becoming better as many moderators are becoming more aware of the problem and reacts quicker with warnings and bans. Still the gaming industry isn't exactly helping by aggressively marketing all female protagonists as sex objects.

Just to agree with Melusine.
I guess I'm one of the older female gamers here, started out on an atari console waaaaay back and then a spectrum - and I've never found that being a female gamer makes it difficult to fit in anywhere. As Melusine said, often guys are delighted to meet girls who are into the same things as they are, and gaming is no exception to that. IME, there's no expectation that female gamers are ugly or nerdy or anything of that nature.

all i mean't with the rare breed comment is that statistically there is still alot more girls who don't play games then those who do. the area i live in has absolutely no gamer girls at all. not in my age bracket at least. i've still yet to meet a hardcore gamer who's of the female persuation (sorry jus trying to think of more interesting ways of saying it as its bein said so much). and yes, i do belive its a shame that more hot girls don't wanna sit around playing computer games for hours on end.....maybe i should just get a life....i think i'll do that.....*wanders off to find a life*
do you think they sell them on ebay? |

Good luck with finding one, Bruce... yet another Internet cliche
![]() Anyway, I just thought it was a weird comment to make on a forum with SO many female gamers. I mean, just think of how many female members we have here... as I said we're in the minority, but not as badly as to merit being called rare. Maybe in your area, sure... but that could have any number of reasons (maybe they just have MORE hobbies and you never asked if gaming was one of them... maybe you just haven't met them yet... maybe you do know them but they're not interested... ![]()
