How come the Cowled Wizards could not control Jon Irenicus, who is level 29, but one of the cowled wizards that attack you when you cast a spell without a license (Zallanora) is more powerful than him (she is level 30, has more spells and hit points)? I was just wondering.

Well... she was not in Spellhold for starters.
Jon Irenicus surrendered to the Cowled Wizards remember? He knew that he would lose eventually, so he went 'willingly', then he took advantage of Spellhold's facilities. |

Well, you'd think that they'd know if their base was infiltrated, and take action, if they know every time you cast a spell and teleport to your position and attack you. Just a theory.

Thus, his escapade would be known to those within Spellhold, but not to those in other areas of Amn. |

Yes, but in the game characters can Dimension Door to anyplace they want. (indoors, other maps, etc.) Why can't the Cowled Wizards do that? The orcs in Garren Windspear's Cabin could. Saemon Havarian on the pirate ship could. The Cowled Wizards are supposed to be the most powerful mage group in Amn, but they can't even teleport as good as an orc? Weird.

If you remember during several discourses during the game, "Spellhold" is described as a place that people are sent to disappear. In short, the Amnian Cowled Wizards dump the "deviants" in Spellhold and don't think about them after that. Remember what the head Cowled one says about Imoen and Irenicus at the beginning..."let them rot in Spellhold." When you ask any cowled wizard about Imoen, including Tolgerias, he has to think hard about it to even remember who she is. A lot of them don't even know. They couldn't care less.

But I mean, they should care some , because it is a jail full of dangerous criminals. It's like, suddenly people in the U.S get a new security system and put it in a big jail full of convicted murderers, one of them being the cleverest criminal mastermind in the world (and who also has escaped 4 jails before) and then leave 2 guards at the door. If someone tries to escape, they trip the security system. Then the two guards come running trying to catch them. The huge number of inmates quickly dispatch the guards, and then are free to do what they like. I mean, you have to have SOMEONE there or else everyone would escape. In spellhold, they only have two guards. Smmarrt.

They didn't worry at all, because they're oh-so-certain that their little asylum is escape-proof, so all they need to do is send someone there and forget about it. Nobody has escaped there since its construction, so why worry about it? In theory as well as history it is totally secure. Now we all know better, that people SHOULD worry about dangerous criminals, but remember that Cowled Wizards are idiots. After all, one only has so many stat points and if you put too many into Intelligence you don't have enough for Wisdom, hm?
