Hey all,
I searched this forum and couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a second gem bag, but when I open it, the items in it are the same as my other bag. Somehow the game links the two bags together into one? Does this mean you can only have one gem bag while playing? Is the same true with scroll cases?

It shouldnt be like that, I know it isnt for me.

You may have two of the EXACT same gem bag, meaning their CLUA codes are the same so the game believes that when u put items in one it should be in the other as well. I have never found two gem bags that are the same in the game, so maybe it is a bug like Glorfindel said. Did you use CLUA to summon the other bag? I advise against doing this because it can lead to losing items which i have experience with. As long as you have two different (ie different CLUA codes) bags/scroll cases it shouldnt happen.

Oh and Welcome to the Ironworks!!!

I dont think that them having the same code would matter much Dragon_Lord

And btw does it mean that you get every item you put in you bag duplicated or does it just mirror it?

I am sure having the same code does matter for containers. I have summoned in a Bag of Holding while already having the same one from the game, this caused the new bag to reflect what was in the other one. I then dumped that bag after discovering this and left the area. Upon returning to the area and having changed items in the original bag, the bags then changed to reflect the each other. Not good. Which one changed i cant remember try it out and see, BAG31 i think is the original. There are 9 different Gem bag Item Files, this is the reason you can get multiple bags without the above incident happening. As long as containers have different Item Files and therefor different CLUA codes this is avoidable and also alows you to creat extra Bags of Holding without problems.

Hmmm upon further investigation into this matter i discovered something else; Searching for Bag of Holding item files using Shadow Keeper it returned 19 different versions, i remember there only being 1. Summoning the different versions into the game and opening them revealed that each bag had different items held with in, I then thought this might be how the game records what items are stored in each bag for different saved games. Check with shadow keeper to see how many Bags of Holdings u have.

There were some posts about this actually, cant remember exactly though. The same thing happens with shopkeepers, if you sell to one in Athkathla, shopkeepers in Trademeet could have your stuff too.

And no, the bag doesnt duplicate, once you retreive an item from bag A, that same item in bag B is gone too.

Try searching some more, someone explained how it works once, just dont know what the Topic was sorry

I'm playing version 23037, the latest patch. It's just the straight game with no cheats installed -- in fact, I don't even know (and don't want to know) what shadowkeeper is. The second gem bag actually appeared on the street when Jaheira (the character carrying my first bag) got called away for a Harper emergency. I picked up the second bag, and when Jaheira returned, both bags had the same contents though I didn't get duplicates (pulling out an item takes it out of both bags). I dropped one of the bags and just have one now.

I just wanted to know if this was a global bug that applied to all gem bags, or just a one-time occurance. It seems that others are saying there are 4-6 bags in the game, and assuming they don't have this bug I'm content to continue looking for other bags.

Thanks for the friendly welcome and the help!

Hello, Sanathan, and welcome to IW!

The "duplicate bag" bug IS a bug. I have experienced it before; however, I thought it mainly occurred in multiplay. Apparently it's tied to single player games as well. Just drop the bag and see if you can find another one; that's the only thing I can figure out, because if you sell the bag, the other one goes away too.

Regarding the 19 Bags of Holding...those are if you have ToB installed. Apparently if you start a new game in ToB (the expansion part) rather than playing all through SoA, you'll get one of the "goodie bags" based upon what your character class is, to help you get started (since you have to face Illasera within the first few moments of the expansion (ToB spoiler!) )

This is a bug, more usual in multyplayer game (I don´t know why). See, my game has a more peculiar bug!! Everytime a open one of my four gem bags, there is one emerald in it. I can sell the emerand how many times I want

The same thing happenned in my paper case. Everytime i opened it, there were several spells that would be there. I didn´t throw anything away, but I guess you can...

I just discovered a new bug for the bags: If you put a stack of unidentified bolts/arrows in a bag of holding, quicksave, shutdown the game, restart, load, and open the bag, you can take them out again. Than you close and reopen the bag and... they're back! You can have unlimited Bolts of polymorphing for free (this worked in WinBlows 98 SE, unpatched game.) It works only if the FIRST Item you put into the bag is waht you want to multiply. Emptying tha bag and refilling won't work, it has to be the FIRST Item ever to be put inside. Summary: Quitre useful if three in your party use crowwbows!
