With Cloudy's permission, I am re-posting this thread. This time, I would ask that people keep the discussion to the topic at hand, namely: Music that inspires you. Whether you agree with the message of the song or not. So long as it inspires you to think, feel, or do.

Anyway. if you want to talk about the SONG, and any other SONG that inspires you, feel free. If you want to talk about the war, go to the WAR FORUM

I would ask that people respect my wishes on this and keep the thread on topic. If it gets hijacked a second time, I'm just going to ask that it be locked and not bother again. K?

Thanks in advance folks! I appreciate it.

Nacht

Anyway...here's the original thread again, as well as part of my response on THE OTHER THREAD.

We all know where each other stand, and noone is going to make anyone else change their position(short of a bulldozer). This is about exchanging ideas and viewpoints folks, not exchanging blows.

As I was getting dressed this morning, I heard this on the radio, and it really touched me, so I thought I'd share.

The new single by Darryl Worley, called Have You Forgotten? is a fantastic song, and reminds us Americans what we're really fighting for. You can listen to a stream of the song HERE on his official site.

I've cut/pasted the lyrics below, in case you cant listen to the stream.

***********************************************
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?
***********************************************

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet they remember
Just what they're fighting for

CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?

But what kind of reactions did you expect then ? And how did it inspire you ? Cause to me it was obvious that with lyrics like that, the discussion was bound to switch to war.

back on topic... music that inspires me to become active, is dancable stuff, like trance. It brings me in a good mood, and makes me work harder, whatever it is that i'm doing at that moment.

The original thread is in the War forum so if anyone wants to discuss the song with the war as their focus, instead of inspirational music or music in general, please use the link in the first post here.

And I say again, and post this time

"Fortunate Son" by Credence Clearwater Revival

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white, and blue
And when the band plays hail to the chief
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son, son
It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves now
And when the tax man comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, son, son
It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no, no

Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war
And when you ask `em how much should we give
Ooh, they only answer more, more, more, more

It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no military son, son, son
It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, one, one
It ain't me
It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate son, son, son

I dont know. I guess I was hoping people would start talking about music that inspired them. I suppose I should have been more clear at the outset, and stated the point explicitly. I should have known better.

On topic: I love trance stuff. A buddy of mine got me into techno a few years ago. I am a major Orbital junkie, and own a few of their CD's. I am also fond of the tribal sort of techno. The deep, rythmic stuff, not the same note played 4 times, repeat ad nauseum. Hmmmm...*ponders scouring his CD collection for a few names* I'll post more tomorrow about which groups I prefer. I honestly cant remember most of their names, since I prefer compilations. But I recognize the songs at the first note or two.

Good to hear that trance works inspiring for you as well. If i may make a suggestion.... see if you can get your hands on a CD from Tiesto. You'll love it.

Question Mark

I don't know about trance, but for techno, I really like CrystalMethod.

Pavement, of course.

Pavement - Stereo
Pigs they tend to wiggle when they walk
The infrastructure rots
And the owners hate the jocks
With their agents and their dates
If the signatures are checked
You'll just have to wait
And we're counting up the instants that we saved
Entire nation so depraved
From the cheap seats see us wave to the camera
It took a giant ramrod
To raze the demon settlement

But hi ho silver ride
hi ho silver ride
Takes another ride to get me home
Get off the air
I'm on the stereo stereo
My baby baby baby baby baby
Gave me malaria hysteria

What about the voice of Geddy Lee
How did it get so high
I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy
I know him and he does
Well you are my fact checking cuz
We'll focus on the quasar in the mist
The Kaiser has a cyst
And I am a blank want list
The qualms you have and if they stick
They will drown you in a crick
In the neck of the woods that was populated by
Tired nation on the fly
Advice was given u for free
Lots of details to discern
Lots of details

But hi ho silver ride
Hi ho silver ride
Takes another ride to get me home
Listen to me
I'm on the stereo stereo
My baby baby baby baby baby
Gave me malaria hysteria

Pavement - Shady Lane
Blind date with a chancer, we had oysters and dry lancers
And the check when it arrived, we went dutch dutch dutch
Dutch a redder shade of neck on a whiter shade of trash
And this emory board is giving me a rash
I'm flat out
You're so beautiful to look at when you cry
Freeze don't move
You've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation
Of the sequel to your life
A shady lane
Everybody wants one
A shady lane
Everybody needs one
Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God
Oh my God oh his God oh her God oh your God
It's everybody's God, it's everybody's God
It's everybody's God, it's everybody's God
The worlds collide
And all that I want is a shady lane
Glance don't stare
Soon you're being told to recognize your heirs
No not me
I'm an island of such great complexity
Distress surrounds
The muddy peaceful centre of this town
Tell me off
In the hotel lobby right in front of all the bellboys
And the overfriendly concierge
A shady lane
Everybody wants one
A shady lane
Everybody needs one
Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God
Oh my God oh his God oh her God oh your God
It's everybody's God, it's everybody's God
It's everybody's God, it's everybody's God
The worlds collide
But all that I want is a shady lane

Pavement - Harness your Hopes
Harness your hopes
on just one person
because you know a harness
was only made for one
Don't telegraph your passes
You'll end up with molasses
cauterized in syrup
And syrup and molasses
And I'm checking out the asses
The assets that attract us
To anything that moves
We're deep inside the grooves
And it's time to shake the rations
cause someone's gonna cash in
The plot it turns again
The reference starts at ten
Well show me
A word that rhymes with Pavement
And I won't kill your parents
And roast them on a spit
And a-don't you try to etch it
Or permanently sketch it
Or your gonna catch a bad bad cold
And the freaks have stormed the white house
I moved into a lighthouse
It's on a scenic quay
It's oh so far away
Far away from the beginning
The shroud is made of linen
The yearling took the purse
The goth kid has a hearse
Heart-breaking
Earth-quaking
Kiwis they are home baking
Minds wide open truly
Leisure
A leisure suit is nothing
It's nothing to be proud of
In this late century
And I'm asking you to hold me
Just like the morning paper
Pinched between your pointer
Your index and your thumb
It's a semi-automatic
Believers are ecstaic
You see the way they cling
The cold metallic sting
And I'm living in a coma
For Donna DeVorona
The harness made of hopes
The lovers on the ropes
Nun is to church
As the parrot is to perch
And my Heart's
Wide open Truly
