Well? I live in a little town, and there are a few people (we got like 3) but I dunno anybody that wants to be a dungeon master. I don't know how to find anyone in my area. The local shop that sells D&D stuff does sponsor or promote anything, and I skimmed through a D&D official magazine, but couldn't find any connections. so... what do I do?

umm... place adds in paper, call every person you know and advertise... at local gatherings wear things that draw attention to you... Especially people going to see Lord of the rings

So I'm not the only one with this dilemma! Well, I'm a newbie who wants to get started, because I've downloaded and read the Player's handbook, and it sound just as good as rumor says. I'm a graduating high school senior, and I'm taking the next year off before college, so I have a flexible schedule and will have plenty of time to play. I want to buy the stuff (I'm even willing to buy most of the stuff, including the DMG and this neat little screen for the DM that has a bunch of tables/charts on his side, and a neat scene on the outside, and some of the figurines and whatnot). Though, I'm still not 100% sure on the mechanics of the game.

i don't think there are any local gathering around here, and I wouldn't know how to get wind of any if there is.

I'm a "jock" with a soft side for adventure, so I don't think I can attract too much attention. I guess I don't look like the "sterotypical" D&D player.

(I apologize for the steroypes, but I didn't make them up!)

Also, I'm interested in buy many of the figures (like the dragons and stuff) but most of them need painted. I'm a moderate modeler, so I got no problem painting my character or some of my friends, but there's no way I could do a dragon like it shows on the box. Too time consuming to... how would I find someone worthy enough to paint some of the more difficult figurines?

ask the gaming store owner if you could put up a flier looking for a game. Chances are other people are in the same situtation

A few suggestions.

The flier idea is a real good one; if anybody plays they likely visit the gaming store.

Place an ad in Dragon magazine - gamers read this. (Not sure how well distributed it is in Oz, but it's worth a shot)

Wear D&D T-shirts.

Visit conventions; if you have some cash you could even start your own.

Universities are hotbeds for gaming activity, if there are any near you post some fliers there.
