Look, I`ve just saved the world. I`ve survived countless battles and some very dreary nights in third class taverns (could never afford better than "Peasant" class )I`ve beaten Irenicus not once, not twice, wait for it, three times. I have even survived having Jaheira go premenstrual when Aerie was coming on a bit strong. I have done all of this with a sickeningly good reputation and casting nobility and graciousness to all corners of Amn. And what do I get ? I get the rather half-hearted thanks of the elvish nation (which they repeal 30 mins later and cast me out to save yet another world or two) and a dingy green necklace. Then, to add insult to injury, I discover that you get the necklace for free just for loading up ToB in any case. How is that for thanks ? In my country I would be knighted. (Hmm, Sir Leofric ...) or given some great honour (an estate in the country).Even transatlantic world savers would get the Purple heart and medal of Congress (or something). Why are we all bothering to set yet another bunch of peasants free from injustice etc when the rewards are so miserly ?

The REAL problem with saving the world, the REAL problem, is that if you DO save the world, there's two ways other people can take the news - If they're pessimistic they think you'll fail, and don't bother making up some special package for you, and if they're optimistic, they probably don't believe the world's going to end anyway and don't think you made any difference. I don't know... crusading across the continent, defeating all manner of nasties, smashing aside evil in the name of righteousness... and for what? Just so a load of piano school dropouts can make a living plunking a harp and singing your tale wot they made up theselves. No doubt there'll be some dodgy rhymes in it too. Not to mention that wherever you choose to retire is bound to suddenly hit absolute economic depression thanks to inflation because of the mountains of gold and trinkets you own that'll flood the local economy. I can just see it...
Tancred: "I'd like to buy some cheese." Cheese Man: "That'll be 5 gc." Tancred: "Um... I don't have 5 gc... will this powerful magic suit of armour do?" Add in the fact that everybody expects you to sort out evey little problem in the world ever - and if you don't they treat you as if you were something they stepped in - and the obvious note that there seems to be an almost inexhaustible supply of bad guys who have a much easier time of it than you (dungeon with central heating, cowed minions instead of lippy backtalking companions) and you wonder why, indeed.

I dont CARE about rewards... *sobs* I went though the same as you, and as an wait for it, AN ELVEN RANGER! what do they do?! nothing! thats right! they wont even accept me as one as their own! argh! thats all I ever wanted *sobs*, well ok, maybe I'm exagerating slightly, but, the elves could haved treated the main pc (if he was aan elf) as some long lost son/brother/daughter/sister/newphew/niece... etc, I personally dont like the way they glossed over the elven bit. sure they said a couple of words, but nothing special. "I am dissapointed in our lack of progress" (now replace the words 'our' with 'their', and 'am' with 'was')

Sir leofric the Unsteady...I like the sound of that. I suppose I'd have to be Dame Kaltia the eternally Discombobulated.
BEAT THAT! And I deserve a title much more than you...I put up with Anomen....

Playing an elven ranger myself, I sympathyse completely Calaethis. Will you be my long-lost nephew? We'll start our own elven kingdom someplace
![]() Really, it's not about the reward. In fact, it was never about any reward or saving the world. First you want Imoen back, then you want your soul back. And a little revenge with it too. Saving the world is only a nice bonus for the people ![]() |

well I liked the reward. Hey what did BG give you for saving them? Nothing in fact they allowed your entire party to be kidnaped just as you leave the city.
