heh I have no idea which one I need. Finally got my Radeon card installed and for the most part working, but when I go to advance the screen sixe and say okay it blacks out. I was told this is due to the driver of the particular monitor ? Is this true or is it soemthing else ?
Any ideas would be apreciated. Thanks |

Try Belarc to figure out which exact moniter you're using.
If that doesn't work, there is another thread here on the first or second page, with another online utility to help figure out exactly what hardware you have. I dont' know if that will solve your problem, but finding the correct moniter driver will help narrow it down.

Maybe your graphics card is writing checks your moniter can't cash?

I've had trouble with graphics cards, too. First off, what ATI card is it?
Secondly, do you have the latest driver for your new video card? A general solution that may help you: 1.) plug in your old video card and make sure everything works ok 2.) Download the latest monitor driver, and video card driver (from video card maker's website) 3.) Install the new monitor driver, and make sure everything works ok 4.) go into control panel, and then into add/remove programs. Locate your old video driver, and remove it (this is what most people fail to do, and it can easily lead to problems). 5.) Shut down your computer 6.) Carefully remove your old video card, and plug in your new video card 7.) Boot up your computer 8.) Install your new video card driver 9.) Make sure everything runs ok This procedure has fixed 80% of me and my friends' video issue. If this fails to do it, you may need to update your BIOS version, and/or possibly chipset drivers from your motherboard's website. Good luck, and let me know if this fails!!!

Check the refresh rate, the monitor may not be able to use the one you are trying (like 800x600 at 60Hz might work, but 800x600 at 100Hz wont) This may be true on the LOW side, too. If you card is sending at, say, 56Hz, it may be out of range at the bottom. Also, go up in steps. Don't go from 640x480 to 2180x1600 all at once. Go to 800x600, then 1024x768, then 1152x900, then 1280x1024, etc. until you get one above what you want, then go back down to the one you want. Then fiddle with refresh, pick the highest one that will work.
