Dude, in one word: YES!

Get BG2 and ToB expansion if you can. Both are pretty much on sale, and you may even be able to buy them bundled together. There is far more storyline in them than in Dungeon Siege, which is fun in its own right as well, but not much replayability.

Basically, the graphics suck compared to Dungeon Siege, but the storyline and character building is worth it.

Cheers,
-Sazerac

NOTE: If it's roleplaying and storyline you're after, buy BG1 and its expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast, FIRST. Its plot is even better (in my opinion) than BG2's, and since it's been out for so long, it's dirt cheap: Last week I saw BG1 and ToSC "The Original Saga" for all of $15. Also, if you spend a couple of months in BG1, BG2 will be that much cheaper when you get around to buying IT.

Definitely!!
You may also want to try Planescape: Torment for an "out of this world" experience. Less combat intensive, but very, very intriguing plot. Lots of room for your character to grow.

Indeed I agree with what has been said, they are without a doubt the best of the rpg's I played thus far. If you feel inclined to, and have a few coin for it, I would suggest purchasing BGI, and TotSC, so as to get you into the storyline better, and give some experience at how the game works.
