After reading the recent posts asking about "spyware", I "un-installed" my standard version of KaZaa and downloaded KaZaaLite since it is supposed to be "free" of spyware.

However, during the installation, I got a "pop-up" message stating that the installation process had created a duplicate "dll" file and that this file was "necessary for the operation of KaZaaLite"......so I should NOT remove it, even though Ad-Aware would consider it to be "spyware".

So which is it? I remember reading in the previous thread (or somewhere) that this is one of the "tricks" programmers use to install their "spyware", but KZ-Lite is supposed to be FREE of spyware.

My question is.....do I DELETE this file when Ad-Aware "finds" it, or do I tell Ad-Aware to simply ignore it?

If you`re worried about spyware, delete it.
And yeah, this is one thing that they can do- the program itself is free of spyware, but the things it installs with it...

Cerek from what I know, that is the .dll file that makes the spyware in KaZaA function. Unfortunately without this .dll KaZaA itself will also not function. This was the way of making sure it wasn't as simple as deleting the .dll and getting rid of the spyware. What KaZaA Lite has done is modified this .dll so that it will allow KaZaA Lite to function and not the spyware.

A bit like the ICQcore.dll when the ads were first placed in ICQ. There were other steps to take if you wanted to remove the ads, but the easiest one was to replace the ICQcore.dll with a modified one which would still allow ICQ to run but not the ads.

So, do I add the .dll file to the "Ignore this file" when I run Ad-Aware (as suggested by the installation process), or can I go ahead and delete it.

I'm running KaZaaLite now. I un-installed the regular KaZaa.

NEED TO KNOW!!!
Is the spyware in normal Kazaa too bad to keep on the computer? If I get rid of it, it wont work anymore but if I leave it will it be very harmful?

Don't delete the dll kazaalite install, that's a dummy dll. It's to make the program and the network believe you have the spyware.

Exactly. That's the whole point of Kazaalite. Don't delete the dll.
