I want to make a cleric and I was wondering, would it be better to dual class a fighter into a cleric like Anomen, or make a multiclass cleric/fighter, or make a pure class cleric?
Thx in advance [ 05-31-2002, 01:54 PM: Message edited by: Montravant ]

I personally believe that it would be better to multi class a fighter with a cleric because you get a satisfacction of being able to use brilliant armour and all the weapons along with the abilty to cast priest spells....

Actually you can do that with a straight class cleric. The best part about doing that is your cleric spells go up a LOT faster this way - and there are some cool ones out there.
I love clerics (that is my thing) - fighter, mage, cleric (tons of spells, leveling up is slow in the classes, tho), cleric (spells go up quick, especially you turn undead which becomes AMAZING) and fighter cleric (you don't get any real advantages here that I noticed). It is up to you and your playing style. Clerics wear armor. Mages can't. Wearing armor and weilding a flail or mace can do rightous damage... but the Crom Faeyr is amazing in the hands of anyone. I tend to go for the Flail of Ages or the Mace of Disruption (for undead). I don't think you really know how you play until you go through a couple of chapters in the game with a character and party.. figure out what character traits you use the most or the best way and take advantage of that playing style. Enjoy! ![]()

I agree with Charean here, make a pure Cleric. They have almost just as good spells as the Mage, and they have a HUGE advantage as they can wear armour and use good fighting-weapons.
But if you want to be a Fighter too, I suggest using Multi, not Dual. ![]() |

have a ranger dual class to a cleric, that way you get both all cleric and druid spells and two free dual-wield profiency points.

I love pure clerics and I agree with those who have shared their own playing experiences. What helps make this a powerful choice is the weapons and armor available in BG2. One of thebiggest complaints about BG1 was how it heavily, and I mean HEAVILY, favored the fighters and swords. BG2 has nicely corrected this oversight. Think about it:
1. They are second only to fighters in fighting capability; depending on strength they also can be a very formiable tank. 2. They can use any type of armor. 3. There is a large array of weaponry. 4. They have some great spells. * When I play a cleric I emphasize the following: Wisdom, strength, dexterity, constitution. 5. You won't need Amonen (that alone is truly convincing). |

As a friend said to me, "ToB is all about GWW", meaning Greater Whirlwind attack, the high-level ability. If you're not going into ToB, dual-class into a Cleric--better THACO, damage, and you can achieve grandmastery. If you ARE going into ToB, however, dual-classing from a fighter is a liability--I suggest a multi-class for the GWW.

If you want a cleric then consider a ranger dualled to a cleric immediately at the beginning of the game. You still have a full sized cleric, your cleric is not retarded too much (about 90000 XP), you lose nothing and you gain druid-only spells, a lot of HP, proficiency slots and weapon styles. Moreover, you can put 5+ in weapon abilities (it makes sense if you have level 50 rules installed - otherwise, 2+ is as good as 5+). IMHO, the ranger/CLERIC is one of the most powerful classes in the game.

ranger dualed to cleric is indeed one of the most potent classes in the game, but I don't think you can put 5+ profiency in any weapon style, max 2. Only three in dual wielding, of which two are free.
