just purhcased a new graphics card.
Gigabyte's NVidia GeForce 6600 GT
managed to lose the ability to use my computer for half of the day due to wiring issues.
now just lost half of my RAM.

...
maybe I should have stuck with my faithful ATI cards after all.

That's funny. On my next system, i'm considering a swap to Nvidia from ATI due to the numerous gamma issues that my current 9200 card is giving me. Why was it that you changed factions, Mozenwrathe? And can you tell us any more?

You have learnt your lesson, and the superior video card owners will accept you back should you choose so

...I really have no personal basis to agree with you, Hive, as I've only ever bought two graphics cards, one by NVidia, one by ATI, and yet I do agree with you...

ATI does seem to complicate things less than NVidia does...

To be honest that's utter tripe. ATI have by far more problems than Nvidia when it comes to drivers; although they make the effort some of their newer catalyst drivers are appalling.

As for your problem - care to explain it? Things just don't break, sure it's just not some mistake?

Which half of the ram did you lose? I hope we don't have to refer you to the CGT thread...Since you were working inside the case, verify that both of your ram chips are still properly seated. I can't see anything else causing it to disappear, unless you crossed something in the wiring(?) issue.

I bet you zapped the ram with some static, most likely explanation.

I have the same graphics card and I have had no problems at all with it. (i'm not helping much am I?) I have always used nvidia and never a problem.
I think the comment about static could well be the problem. I did that to mine once, bought some ram and zapped the old one when installing it then had to go get some more. Ouch!
