Have you seen the way they feed the poor geese? They stick a big funnel half way down its neck, and pour pounds of grain directly into its stomach. The poor bird doesn't even get to swallow anything. It looks pretty distressing for the bird.
But yes I agree - foie gras sure does taste good! I'm torn between my stomach and my ethics... |

I'm not torn at all between my stomach and my ethics. If you eat this, I have little respect for you.
The froggies are passing this law to make a political stand against some localities in the US which are proposing to make foie gras illegal. In case you're curious what funnel-stuffing has to do with making the bird into food, foie gras is a "delicacy" made from distressed, enlarged, poisoned goose liver. Over stuffing the birds' stomachs causes their livers to enlarge. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Israel has banned foie gras. Illinois, New York, Oregon, and Mass are set to do so, too, as indicated by: http://www.nofoiegras.org/ For a guiltless alternative to sate your palette for foie gras, try these alternative recipes for faux gras found at: http://www.nofoiegras.org/faux_gras.htm |

Well, just like sausage I already knew how foie gras was made; no, it isn't pretty. I don't eat it anymore, anyway, because I don't eat internal organs (liver, stomach, kidney, etc). I like veal, but I stay away from it, too.
"Freedom Gras"?

I suppose some people would think so, Lucern.
"the middle of Michigan"? What happened to "the side of a hill near Dallas"? And when? Did I miss something?

It cracks me up that asking for a veggie burger in some places in Texas gets you a burger with no patty at all.
That side of the hill near Dallas is home. This is grad school, and has been since late August ![]() [ 10-20-2005, 02:41 AM: Message edited by: Lucern ] |

Ah so, young grasshopper. The broadening of the mind, and all that jazz.
At least they don't put a cow patty on it...even though technically the cow patty would be vegan (which I'm not).
