KAMPALA, UGANDA-A day after having his hands amputated by soldiers backing President Yoweri Museveni's brutal regime, Ugandan political prisoner Otobo Ankole expressed regret Monday over Uganda's lack of oil reserves. "I dream of the U.S. one day fighting for the liberation of the oppressed Ugandan people," said Ankole as he nursed his bloody stumps. "But, alas, our number-one natural resource is sugar cane." Ankole, whose wife, parents, and five children were among the 4,000 slaughtered in Uganda's ethnic killings of 2002, then bowed his head and said a prayer for petroleum.

Rokenn, just a word of caution. This is flamebait at it's finest, and I'm sure you know it.
Don't let this thread turn into another circular debate over whether or not oil was the reason for the Iraq invasion that gets out of hand. We've seen that one a few times and this quoted material is quite inflammatory to those on the other side of the argument. edit: just so nobody assumes I don't know the source is humorous- I do..but the post, as is, is inflammatory, considering the other conversations held on this forum of late. Keep it light, if you want to post in this one, gang! [ 04-29-2003, 10:36 AM: Message edited by: Cloudbringer ]

Personally, I think if the source of an article is The Onion or any other somesuch satirical type site, it should be noted somewhere in the initial post. I think it keeps the thread from flaming out of control, especially if the subsequent readers do not follow the link.
No worries though Rokenn, The Onion does what it does very well. Mark |
