In an attempt to gather information for myself, I would like to know what people think the nature of respect is? And pose some questions on respect.
1)Is respect and being polite the same? 2)Is it respectful to disagree with another's thinking or logic? 3)Is respect holding something of value? 4)In holding something of value does that mean that a person can't disagree with another? 5)If someone's actions, toughts, logic, what ever are wrong ,foolish, or incosistant is it respectful to point that out? What about their feelings? 6)Is respect accepting another's thinking , logic, or accepting that they have the right to think as they want? I'll start by answering 1)No, respect and being polite are not the same, respect may at times require politness, but politness doesn't require respect at all to exsist. 2)Yes, by disagreeing you have by nature given the other person's thinking or logic the creditabilty to be discussed, thus showing their thoughts and logic respect. 3)Yes, holding people of value means you want them to be their best, that at times means they may feel bad about their positions. 4)No, The farmer holds his fruit trees of value, yet he will still prune them, kill branches, for the greater good of the fruit trees. 5)No,it is disrespectful to another person to not try to help them. Nobody would consider it disrespectful to take the keys away from a friend that tried to drive drunk, even if it means you have to knock them out. Personnaly I'd rather have a live friend that wasn't happy with me then a dead friend any day. Friendship means if you see a friend doing, acting, thinking foolishly you try to guide them. If you don't then I would question your friendship. I would rather have a friend call my thinking or logic foolish, idiotic, then have them polity agree because they didn't want to hurt my feelings, but that may just be me. I've learned along time ago my toes CAN NOT be stepped on if they are in the right place, and if they do get stepped on then I should move them. 6)It is accepting that they have the right to think as they want. but the right of thinking as you want doesn't make what you think right. Just some thoughts to make people thunk about, when someone disagrees with them. Have they realy desrespected you or have your toes been stepped on and it might be better to see if your toes are where they should be.
