Coalition divided over battle for hearts and minds
This comes on top of a few other incidents and the disagreements over the running of Umm Qasar |

Can either country be realistic and at the same time say that "by killing your military personnel who refuse to surrender and accidentally killing some of you in the process" they will win their hearts and minds?
Its just my opinion, but I don't think the U.S. or Britain should be involved in the long-term outcome of this war. Let them supply foods and medicines to show their good intentions at "freeing" Iraq, but if either country expects to gain any gratitude or popularity from the middle east (as a whole) for the present situation brought about by dealing with the way Iraq is run, they need to step back and let the U.N. make decisions that are approved by a majority. It boils down to experience. The US probably have as many experienced men on the ground as the UK, but the US sent so many men that it also has a lot of less-experienced guys. The US and UK experienced leaders and veteran units *should* both be working to educate those who are a little greener.

I believe it means somehting along the lines of :
Let them hate us, so long as they fear us Though I may be wrong. I was never taught latin, and any knowledge I have of i comes from quotes from John Charity Spring in the Flashman novels ![]() Hardly a degree-level qualification, but that one rang some bells. ![]()

It is best to be loved. But it is better to be feared than laughed at. If the people will not love you, at least make them fear you.
At least that's what the Greyjoys and the Lannisters taught me. ![]() |
