This has probably been discussed before, but I still thought it would be good to make it a new thread.
![]() So, what are people planning to do with Iraq after the war? I've read about the US controlling Iraq for years after, or as the the reporter called it: "old-fashioned occupation" (Time Europe, March 3rd). But maybe there'll be a different plan about it. The way I think it should go, would be for the Iraqi people to decide about their government, and then have the UN just supervise them until things go back on track. What I also would like to know, and I haven't been able to find any information about it, is what will they do with the weapons of mass desctruction when they find it in Iraq (after the war). Are they going to destroy it? Or store it somewhere? Take it for themselves? I know this seems like a stupid question, but destroying weapons costs money, so I wonder who will pay for the desctruction. Not to mention all this stuff they say Saddam has some people wouldn't mind having for themselves. Or maybe I'm just a pessimist. So what do you think? What do you think will happen and how would you like things to go? ![]()

They will probably stick around long enough, until there is a new government instated where everyone can live in peace with. Actually, a lot of Iraqi exiles are being prepared for that as we speak.
A lot of intellectuals, such as writers, lawyers, doctors, etc... fled the country since 1991, and for them this is a chance to go back to their families, and do something for their country. However, the US must not make the mistake to think the Iraqi people will accept an "American puppet". They will NEVER accept someone like that, and he'll pobably be assassinated the first time he steps into the open. They just have to let the people vote, have REAL elections for a change. I know there is opposition in Iraq, they just don't dare to show themselves, or speak freely. That will change after the war. They can't stop after Saddam is taken out, the entire militairy top of Iraq has to be dismantled. They are all murderers, and have to be trialed, if possible by an Iraqi court.
