More "Postpartum Depression"

Post-partum depression, my foot. She's just a crazy b____ who is no different than a rabid dog.

Even I find myself dumbfounded and speechless when I see stuff like this. Words fail me. Enough good people are dying all over the world for just causes, enough people are getting in the crossfire of those engaging in battle simply for the pleasure of killing, and there are enough victims of crime without adding another baby into the mix. I have an idea about what to do with this woman; in fact, this idea would work for most hardened criminals. Give them a gun and put them on the front line of battle for the duration of their prison sentence, that way they can doubly repay their debt to society.

Touchy subject, for me, especially since Belle lost Taylor.

Reminds me of the case where the woman who was voted "Teach of the Year" killed her newborn. Post Partum is very serious and I think misunderestimated. The woman's hormones are rebalancing after pregancy and who knows how that affects the mind. I would liken it to a powerful drug. People do stuff while on drugs that are unfathonable, like thinking they can fly. The post-partum depression is probably something similar, dealing with the feelings and emotions of a woman, throwing them into areas never reached in normal life, and so its like a drug overdose. She is probably on suicide watch right now.

It is sad when stuff like this happens. However the best way to prevent things like this from happening is education and information about mental illness so loved ones can more likely recognize the signs to get help for there loved ones before they do something like this.

Believe me if someone starts going on with things like TV's, Internet, God sending them messages to control them it is a sure sign they should be checked out pronto.

I agree that friends and family should keep an eye out for a new mother's emotional state, but in the cases from Texas during the last couple of years show that the friends and family are all ignoring the warning signs. Education would definitely help.

It this case it's possible that some case workers might also have prevented it...but I haven't heard anything in her background that would have suggested to them that she was going to mutilate her child.

If I can assume that "A hidden sanctorum high above the metroplex" means Ft. Worth or Dallas Azred, did you hear the 911 call on the local news? She was so calm, which indicates to me that something was/is profoundly wrong with her mental state.

Well, according to the story CPS case workers had investigated her earlier in the year and concluded that she posed "no threat" to her children. I know that most case workers are overloaded, but it doesn't take a great deal of insight to see a potential problem like this.
I have nothing against those who are deeply religious; neither do I have anything against stay-at-home mothers. However, the common trait in the really high-profile cases like this is a deeply religious stay-at-home mother who (for whatever reason) doesn't have the support structure one might think she has (family, friends, church, etc) or has a history of mental illness.
Just like with Andrea Yates, the fact that this woman calmly calls 9-1-1 then waits for police to arrive shows that 1) she knew what she did was wrong and 2) is willing to accept the consequences, both signs of sanity.

"A hidden sanctorum high above the Metroplex" originally referred to Frisco. Although technically it should now read "a hidden sanctorum deep in the West Texas badlands" I didn't feel like changing it. [img]graemlins/petard.gif[/img]

Valid points Azred. I would only add that very religious stay-at-home moms who lack adequate social support are reasonably common, and these horrendous acts are thankfully uncommon (or underreported). It may not be a reasonable set of indicators for the case workers to sound the alarm - lest they sound too many alarms on genuine non-threat mothers. There must be more likely indicators that just weren't there or weren't detected.

As for your sanctorum, you must have had a good reason to move from Frisco to West Texas, because that's what it would take for me [img]smile.gif[/img] In any case it's harder to hide a High Sanctorum there - no trees to hide it hehe. I live in Cedar Hill, and I can defend against those allegations by showing my birth certificate roughly 20 years after that event
