Two attempts to set fire on mosques in my neighbourhood were made as well, apparently it hasn't reached the news yet, or it weren't very succesful attempts, dunno yet. Things are getting a little heated overhere, which was only to be expected.

Gotta give credit to the muslim community for rallying against the killing and to speak up for a peaceful solution. Now let's hope the other side feels the same way.

Okay - this actually happened in my home town. Spent the entire day so far writing essays and doing assignments; didn't hear of it until now. As soon as I'm done, I'll try to inform myself on the issue a little bit more extensively.
I'll have just one thing to say, though - f-ing idiots. Why can't people think in terms of "we" instead of "us vs. them"?

Okay, while (hopefully) still only isolated incidents, there's been a chain of anti-muslim aggression lately in the Netherlands. Sorry for providing a link to a Dutch site, but it lists a number of events of only the last few days - ranging from the school explosion to other kinds of vandalism and aggressive slogans, from racism to fires, from molotov cocktail attacks to actual cases of physical abuse.

If anyone could handle such a situation better than the U.S. does, I would have guessed that the Dutch would have been a prime candidate to set an example for us.

This contradicts that assumption.

I am at least relieved to see that the human traits of revenge exist in all of us and is not just some bug that is in American water.

Indeed Larry, although anti-Muslim sentiment gets just as vicious here in the UK at times. I haven't met a Muslim or Asian person who hasn't experienced abuse (and mostly pretty darn serious) at some time in their lives which is pretty awful considering we're all supposed to be civilised countries.

Frankly, I think there just exists a minority who delight in causing misery to others. If there were no Muslims in Britain, I'm sure they'd just find some other group to victimise.

I tried Babelfishing that site, but beyond something about a mosque being covered in racist posters the translations were poor to the point of being incomprehensible. You'd think that the technology would have moved on a bit by now!

Yeah, that's the one, the El Faruq mosque. It's only a few minutes by foot from where i live. So far i've heard two attempts were made to torch the place. The first one, mentioned in that forum didn't do much damage, but the second one did. Didn't read anything about that yet though. Personally i think the media shouldn't give attention to every fart directed in some mosque's direction, that'll only make things worse. I recall when the police shot and killed a footballhooligan in his home a few years ago, and the media were all over the case. Their presence alone was a garantee for 4 days of mass rioting. It happened in Den Bosch, but the rioters came from all over the country. It's those morons from SBS and RTL that create a hype around every act of crime. I realise those cases need to be reported, but they stick around on the scene waiting for the hyenas to come running. And when there's cameras around, the hyenas will surely follow. Those riots would have been over in one day if there wasn't any media around for live coverage, but SBS and RTL made sure they lasted 4 days. I'm afraid were heading in the same direction with all this.

For outsiders: just compare SBS and RTL to whatever the most populistic, tabloid-style tv channel in your country is. I can do nothing but agree with Johnny's assessment regarding the media in our country.

Oh, like CBS. Sorry you guys are having trouble. This is related to the Van Gogh killing, right?
