I couldn't imagine having a cold shower, does anyone actually do that? I always have mine as hot as possible, well sometimes I have to turn it down if it is burning me, but really hot!

With someone else

In all seriousness, though, I like really long, elaborate, almost ritualistic showers. That's why I don't like living with other people in this dorm. I prefer half-hour long showers involving exfoliation, two different kinds of body soap, shampoo, conditioner, a pumice stone, all sorts of nail brushes... Ideally, it takes me several minutes to unpack all of my things before and then pack them all up after.
Ideally.
In this building we don't even have enough water pressure to condition. It trickles out. I tried to condition once. It took me a LOOOOOOONG time to get it all out.

I live in a house where I study with a nice boiler so showering long isn't something out of the ordinary. I keep upping the temperature, so when I come out I'm all red and steamy

Reminds me to go showering right now

Depends on if it's cold or hot. Sometimes after I have been computering immediately when I got out of bed I notice that it was quite cold in my room cause the shower feels really hot. Then I make it even warmer cause I might have been cold. However when the weather is warm or I've been sporting I like it colder than average, though it has to be really warm if I won't turn on any hot water.

I shower once or twice a day.

And yes it was hard, cause you didn't list my options

I thought my shower poll was better

I've actually been having almost cold showers lately - we've been having the hottest February since 1925 and it's not fun! Our taps are really insensitive though - you can do about 3 rotations before 'a bit too warm' becomes 'a bit too cold'.

I often do combination showers Hot water followed by cold, followed by hot again, and so forth. It's really good for your blood circulation. And I always end with cold water, it's good for your hair (makes it less likely to become damaged and makes it more shiny). When I take a shower at night, I use hotter water than when I'm showering in the morning. In the mornings it's often a bit more lukewarm to wake me up properly. That's much better for your skin, as well - all of you folks who are showering with scalding water are not doing your skins a big favour.
Same goes for the current moronic trend of pretending you're "dirty" and "icky" if you shower less than once a day. Puhlease... That's just utter nonsense. I don't mind admitting I shower every other day. Even if you showered every two or three days it would be alright, as long as you WASH in between and use deodorant or unless you're a horribly sweaty person.
Showering too much makes your skin go flaky, makes your hair greasier and isn't at all more hygienic than showering a little less frequently: all you're doing is washing away the natural defense layer your skin builds up. There, I've said it. Can ya tell I'm annoyed by the "ooh, shower at least twice a day or you're ickky!!" crowd?

Ewww Mel! Ickky!!! Just teasing .....

There is no feeling better than coming off of a field exercise and taking a long relaxing hot shower. You can feel the exhaustion melt away. Those showers take at least an hour for me! Then, being refreshed, sleep is not needed for another good 10 hours!

I think how often you need to shower depends on where you live and how you live. Here right now, in the middle of summer, with extremely hot and humid weather, you're not going to get away with showering every other day. I can tell a lot of people who shouldn't be are following Mel's lead at the shopping centre nearby - they stink! Really, you shouldn't be able to smell someone from 2 metres away . Clearly a combination of not bathing, and putting on dirty clothes. Without air-conditioning, the nights are stifling and you sweat buckets - getting up in the morning and not showering does leave you smelling. Then when you come home from being at work all day you can feel all the sweat and ick on you and I at least don't want to get into my bed like that. I agree that a blanket 'you must shower twice a day or you're ickky' is unnecessary, but at the same time, a blanket 'showering once every other day is plenty' isn't appropriate either .

I do shower twice a day, once in the morning to wash my hair, because it's easier to style freshly washed and wet, and it helps me wake up better, and once at night so I don't go to bed dirty - we walk our dog in the evenings and especially now, you really get sweaty and disgusting by the time you get home again.

Oh and personally, I find that 'cold water makes your hair shiny' a load of rubbish . It never made any difference for me (just made my head cold), and since I haven't had a split end in about 8 years, it probably won't make it less damaged either .
