Seems the EPA is getting trounced these days for not protecting the environment (you know, the name sorta implies it should protect the environment). Here's a sample of today's hit list from the BNA Daily Enviro:

1. The Sierra Club files two suits in the U.S. District Court
for the District of Columbia Circuit to challenge EPA rules
setting emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants.
The Sierra Club charges that the EPA rules for iron and
steel manufacturers and for brick and clay manufacturers are
"far weaker than the law requires and inadequate."

2. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of
Washington says EPA is required to stop authorizing
streamside use of certain pesticides that are harmful to
endangered species of salmon. EPA already is under a court
order to consult with the National Marine Fisheries Service
on the effects of 54 pesticides on endangered salmon. The
new order says EPA may continue to approve the use of the
pesticides during consultations with the National Marine
Fisheries Service under the condition that the approvals do
not jeopardize the fish and do not violate the Endangered
Species Act.

3. A federal water management plan for the Klamath Basin
reclamation project relies on uncertain nonfederal actions
to achieve sufficient water flows for salmon, according to
the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of
California. The court also says the plan lacks specificity
on the incidental take of Klamath River coho salmon listed
under the Endangered Species Act. It remands the plan back
to the federal agencies for amendments, but leaves the plan
in place during the meantime.

TL I may a little off your topic but I think another problem with our governments rulings on envi. laws are being ruined by all the "new" suvs'.Almost every auto manufacturer has one or more models,I think it's only because they are less restricted for emisions and gas consuption.Making them cheaper to build and less restricted by epas' laws.More crap in the air.More money for big business,as usual.Help us Ralph Nadar!!
