This is a rather interesting article of some celluar experments being done on cells. While it may bring up several questions, I was interested in the last paragraph on advancements in science. Here's the url: http://www.msnbc.com/news/934076.asp?vts=070220031350
have a go at it.

I totally agree with Larry. Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean that you should.
Currently, hermaphrodites are surgically altered to be only one gender soon after birth, to avoid undue psychological stress on the child later in life.

I think that using science to create someone who is different is wrong.
As Azred said: just because you can do it doesn't make it right to.

I agree with larry and Azred, but I also agree with Mr. Moprey. I dont think the level of hysteria that one lady in the article presented is really apropriate. I think she was over the top. Describing Hermaphrodites as Disgusting is rather intolerant and bigoted....especially since it happens naturally too. |

When it occurs naturally Doctors determine if they are closer to a Male or Female than do surgery. Sometimes they guess wrong so the person ends up being gay (not in all cases but some). Since we are now a more tolerant society (for the most part) than the past they can live pretty normal lives without scorn (usually). I found that interesting.

![]() Really screwed him up (unsurprisingly). It's an interesting case, you can read about it here: http://infocirc.org/rollston.htm Obviously this kid wasn't a hermaphrodite, but the doctor who finally suggested sexual re-assignment was this Kiwi named John Money. Some of you may know him: he was a kind of 70's psycho-babble goldenchild. And he was also responsible for convincing LOTS of parents to sexually re-assign their kids, in the case of hermaphrodites AND in cases where, for example, a boy with all the requisite boy parts happened to be born with an undersized schmeckle. This guy has a major ego and he freaks me out.
