Help! I can't get out of this *@$#!@ sphere!

How do I get out of the planar sphere where Lavok is hanging out? I beat on him and beat on him but nothing happens, but I can't seem to find anything that would contain his life force. Also, I need to find some mysterious power source for the sphere, but no luck there either.

Possible spoilers in this post:

By looking at what you said, I believe you've already fought Lavok and he requested a power source for the sphere? If you go out, (Exit the sphere, you should be able to go out the door you first came in.) you will notice that you're in an odd place. Find a demon and destroy it, and take its heart back to the sphere. In the sphere, there should be an area with runes on the floor. Examine the runes, and there will be text telling you to press on the runes. If you press on the runes in the correct order, a door will be opened, and if you step in, the Cowled Wizards that asked you to find Valygar will be there waiting for you. Fight them, and go into the other rooms. There should be a room with a fire theme, and a room with an ice theme. In both of those two rooms are back doors to the power room. Take the heart to the center of the power room, and press the lever there, and you will be taken back to Athkatla. Go back to Lavok, who will ask you to take him outside. Take him outside, and you'll find that you're back home again. (I hope that's the info you wanted, and hope I didn't miss anything, or didn't explain enough for you to be able to understand. Ask again if you need any specific info.)

did you attack Lavok again after defeating him? Did you use fake talk or similar cheese to defeat him?
If so you screwed your possibility to talk to him. This does not keep you from exiting the sphere - do as Jabberwocky says - but it will deny you the stronghold and Lavok's equipment.

Thanks for the very succinct help. I have now escaped, but I will tell you what I did and see what you think. I entered navigator's room, hidden in shadows, and checked it out. Then entered with the whole party, which Lavok attacked. I pretty much kicked his but until he was on the ground, "near death". He never spoke, never stood up again. I killed the wizards downstairs, still no info, hence my frustration.

I should have thought of repleneshing the "fading evil" of the power core. Thanks for the insight.
