Just wondering, how long do you keep food in the fridge, and when do you consider it "bad"? How long do you keep milk? cheese? sauces like terriyaki or soy? jellies or jams? lettuce? carrots? cukes? What about raw meat? I made this huge pot of chili on Sunday, have an air sealing refrigerator and wrapped all very well and airtight, but how long is the chili good? That is the question? Still looks the same, smells the same, but is it really alone now? Or is bacteria booking rooms amongst the beans?

LOL, what is your thoughts on refrigerator food longevity?

Food stays in there forever. It lives and evolves. Never is it bad, infact it's always very well behaved.

Yes well I know if I ever need any Pennicilin, I know where to go... I figure if it looks back at your or growls at you, perhaps it has been too long in there.... dunno, but what about the chili? Should I feed it to the dog next door or is it still viable?, I'm sure the neighbor's dog owners will get a real laugh out of it, Claire the beagle eats like a horse for her small size.

If I were left to my own devices, it would stay there until whatever it evolved into waged war with the other resident evolved-from-food organisms, ultimately (with a lot of luck) erradicating each other. My idea of a self cleaning fridge.

Fortunately I am not left to my own devices.

*is reminded of a cowboybeebop episode where he leaves some beef casarole in the fridge in zero gravity too long and it evoulves into a life-sucking life form that tries to kill everyone on board, he is forced to eject the fridge into space like in the alien movie and the played the 2001 space song as if flew off into the stars LOL... as for the creature, it was picked up and eaten by ED, who confused it for a jellow mold*

Thank goodness we havent subjected leftovers to the presures of space yet @_@

Listening to music is good for flowers, why not you?

LOL Deathkiller!! I remember watching this low budget movie once in the early 80's, can't remember the name of it. The people were all on a spacecraft, and there was computer intelligent life forms, one was their bomb LOL, the other was some strange airbag floating thing, was odd but funny as hell, and it was dangerous LOL to the unsuspecting Leiutenant! Never forget that movie, although I can't remember the title doh...

In truth most sweets will last nearly for ever. The sugar is a preservitive. Fresh produce and dairy are the most likely to comit suicide. Fresh meats are good for 3-4 days max, same with poltery. But your chili, with the spices and being cooked should be good for a week. You know you CAN freeze a lot of that stuff.
