Ok, I saw the latest trailer not too long ago and something really bothered me about it. I wanted to know if anyone else picked up on this.

In the movie preview there is this huge dramatic rush of scenes and in one of them Legolas draws an arrow and notches and fires. What bugs me is how he does this. In the preview he places the arrow on the outside portion of the bow instead of on the inside balanced over his hand.

Does anybody know why he does this? I really want to know because he is sort of a favorite fantasy character for me. Here are some snap shots of what I am talking about.

I noticed that too, but it was probably done to make the shot "look" better....creative license. Those who have never strung a bow probably won't notice, and the shot did look pretty good.

Hey, maybe that's the way elves sight their bows in real life...

The caption on the picture notes how rapidly Legolas could fire his bow. Perhaps this is a special technique developed by Legolas to increase his rate of fire. Firing from the outside probably saves a half a second - which could make a BIG difference in a battle.

Note the next two pictures where the orc is struck down before he can even fire a shot.

I think it is an example of creative license used to enhance the appearance of the character's skill. That appears to be a damned awkward way to shoot a bow - but Legolas is deadly with it!

Bottom Line - Legolas is SOOOO good with a bow, that he can fire an arrow from any position and still be deadly accurate.

Just not NEARLY as disturbing as how they decided to merge Glorfindel's character with Arwen's. UGH!

Okay.... They're merging characters and removing Tom Bombadil, the journey through the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs, I'm seriously starting to wonder whether I should see this movie....

Just keep in mind that "creative license" is a necessary evil in film making.

It would be impossible to do the movie following the book religiously. The written word and visual arts are interperated differently by the mind and, therefore, have to be presented differently.

The books will always be better than the movie, lets just hope the movie is true to the "spirit" of the book.

Well, that's why he's a super archer! He's an elf and they know what they are doing ... I think Ronn is right, it looks better in the shot.

Personnally, I'm more pertubed about the removal to Tom Bombadil, the Enchanted Forest and the Barrow. However, I realize that to the Non-Tolkien literate, this might appear perfectly normal on-screen.
