To prevent level drain: Amulet of Power or a spell of Negative Plane Protection.
The sword Daystar (found in the inn in the City Gates) is very helpful against the undead, as is a fireball or 4. To kill Firkraag; the best information I can give you is remove all fire spells from your mages/priests; remove protections from any element but fire, and have plenty of healing spells/potions. |

Bulletsponge,
I finished the whole area early on in my game, then left the Dragon until I was much more powerful. When I came back, he was easy. Monsters do not respawn in the area if you do it that way. |

Yes, you can go back to town to rest if you want. The monsters will not respawn in that dungeon. You could rest there, sometimes monsters come, sometimes not. Squeeze your whole party into one of those little rooms where the guardians were, that usually works for me.
Your level drain probably happened in that last room with the shadows. The Negative Plane Protection spell (cleric/druid) only lasts for five rounds. The Undead Hunter (paladin kit) is immune to level drain and kicks undead a**. My method for dealing with big undead showdowns is my cleric. Cast Repulse Undead (no save), walk right in and cast Holy Smite after Holy Smite with a False Dawn or two if you feel flamboyant. On a side note, how awesome is Holy Smite? It deals out lots of damage, you can cast it right in the middle of your party (it only affects evil alighnments), it's only a third level spell, so you have a ton of them and it seems to affect most creatures. When dealing with undead, you MUST have at least one Lesser Restoration memorized. It will restore the lost levels. I always take on the dragon very early in the game; so, I don't have any powerfull spells, most notably Lower Resistance. You must have your party protected from fire. It's only a third level spell that is usable by both clerics and druids; so, you can protect your whole party. Resist Fear is a must as well. I always have my druid summon two Fire Elementals as they are immune to his breath. It's always a tough fight for me because at this point in the game for me, my weaponry is very poor. You have to pump up your front line guys with strength (potions or Draw Upon Holy Might) and speed (potions or Haste). I also discovered that he is VERY suseptable to lightning. Just use Protection From Lightning on your frontal team and don't hit the elementals. Happy hunting!

Also quite useful are Potions of Icedust--you can get 2 or 3 of them from one of the Mages in the Slaver Ship. Each potion, when used, makes all party members within 20' or so (I forget the exact radius) immune to all fire damage for a (very) short time. So when Firkraag Wing Buffets your Summons and Tanks out of his way and starts goin' for your spellcasters, toss off one of those potions and watch him NOT kill all your Mages with one Fireball.
