Charisma measures a character’s persuasiveness, personal magnetism, and ability to lead. It is not a reflection of physical attractiveness, although attractiveness certainly plays a role. It is important to all characters, but especially to those who must deal with non-player characters, mercenary hirelings, retainers, and intelligent monsters. It dictates the total number of henchmen a character can retain and affects the loyalty of henchmen, hirelings, and retainers.

Charisma has an effect of the prices. I wasn't sure myself but I saw it with my own eyes yesterday.

but what effect (apart from prices) does charisma have in the game. i.e. can ppl give an exmaple ofwhen a high charisma character talking will have different dialogue choices to a low charisma character? Or any other examples of the difference between high and low charisma..

OFten wondered about this because it seems to be by far the least important attribute (on average through the classes..)

Example...

When I was doing the thief stronghold quest and running around for Edwin, I needed to get those documents for him. I dont know how high your charisma needs to be, but without the ring of human influence I couldnt threathen him to give me the documents, he would just say he wasnt impressed, but with the ring on he was scared and gave them to me so I didnt have to pay.

You can convince Gracen that the comotion he heard above the five flaggons inn were a couple of traitors that needed to be dealt with. Low CHA and he doesn't belive you, high CHA and he does and tells you info

It plays a small role in Brynnlaw gaining access into the festhall. You can get in for free with a high CHA, otherwise you need to pay, and they regard you as an assassin rather than a hero that will free them if you CHA is low

Again in Brynnlaw, you can convince the pirate lord that you are raving mad so he will send you the the Asylum, but you need sky high CHA

You can also convince Phaere not to sleep with you in Ust Natha but only if you have a high CHA

These are just a few examples, there are many more cases where a high CHA can help you, the above were just a few that immediately sprung to mind

Charisma isnīt a very important when you make a character, though. My Kensai naturally has charisma of 3, but when I use ring of human influence and nymph cloak, I get to dire charms per day and my charisma goes all the to 20. This way, charisma is the most replacable of the attributes and therefore the most useless of them.

It is true for a ROLL Player, but a ROLE Player would never do that. Last time I looked Baldur's Gate II was a ROLE playing game.

Do you keep this equipment on permanently? If so then you are incurring a penatly to your kensais AC and saving throws, since they cannot wear armour, you need to equip the ring of Gaxx and the ring of protection +2 (and possibly the cloak of the sewers) for SoA for the best possibly combination. If not then I find it too fiddly to put that stuff on everytime you talk to someone or buy something.
