When I tried the game out, I found out that when I put a skill point into the Short Weapons proficiency, every kill (or every hit, I'm not really sure) lowered the cost of upgrading the skill. When I tried the same with no skill points, the cost didn't change.
Being the experience grubbing powermongerer that I am, I'd like to know how this system works exactly. At what rate does the cost lower? What about if I put 2 points into it and then fight (the weak monsters at the beginning) - would that be more profitable for my character? Does this apply for skills that one doesn't use in combat - In other words, does this apply for all usable skills? What about Athletics? Is there a way to lower the cost of ability points? Thanks in advance. |

The best way I've found to lower the cost is to raise your INT. I started a new character (a femail rogue, just for fun) and pumped most points into INT. She's now around INT 50, give or take a point or two... and she's just in Fargrove, ready to go into the wizard's sanctum and do the candle quest thingie.
I'm waiting for her to get to Skuldoon to do battle in the arena... 33,000 XP for each minotaur is nice pickin's ![]() Being able to improve skills by using them is an old DW Bradley standby... but not all skills improve this way. I *think* that only weapons, lockpicking, and perhaps spells improve this way.

really? i never noticed any particular skill go down in cost from usage.
as for ability points, there is no way to adjust their cost and they are based on your race.

I think I saw it (in the demo, at least), and partly because I expected to see it (from W&W, Wiz8, etc.). But I could have been dreaming, or perhaps it was just the result of buying some IQ points...

the best way to lower the cost of skill advancement is to get promoted to complimentary classes.
example: if you are a knight than join the temple of the celestine, become an adept and get promoted to a paladin. Both the paladin and knight have similar learning bonuses and their bonuses will significantly lower the cost of skills.
