Hi folks. Didn't see any way to get this going but a new topic so here goes.

I bought Wiz 8 and it says XP on the package but can't get it to run.
The game will install fine ( I guess ). When I get to the set up I have to hunt a sound sourse. The auto detect one will not respond. I thought this might be the trouble so I set it "no sound" and still it would not run. Here is what it will do.......

Install.... run setup... load W8 start screen.....

You can do everything there except tell it to "PLAY" When you do it heads for the CD and starts returnning an error that the wrong one is in the drive to incert the correct one. I have tried all 3 cds and same thing happens. I have to completely reset the system to get out.

Here is system stats ( I hope) I may miss something if so just ask.

IBM P4...... 512 mem on board.
Sound is Avaceac 97 Audio
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Syth for MIDI
NOTE : These are usually fine set as Soundblaster also.

Vedio is a Radeon 8500 LE with max mem.

CD is a Sony 52X

All driver and Driect X 9 are installed. I check them all 1 time a week.
OH and monitor is a Phillips 107S.

I am running a firewall also.

Well there it is PPL. Will someone be nice enough to try to help me?

OH ALMOST FOGOT : The game verson says 1.2.4......

Thanks everyone.

Most likely, your CD-rom drive is the culprit, not the OS. The copy protection they are using is notorious for being incompatible with a number of drives. I have a CD-RW drive and a DVD drive, and only the DVD drive accepts the disc 3.

If you have a free IDE slot, you could try adding another CD/CD-R(w)/DVD drive and see if it works then. Or try to find a crack somewhere? IMO if you own the original CDs, it would be acceptable for you to use a crack if you cannot get a legally purchased game work otherwise.

Maybe someday I will upgrade to a CD/DVD Read/Write but on a fixed income you use what ya have !

first thing...
get your cdrom drive updated. go to the manufacturer's site and download the most recent hardware update they have.
it's called firmware and all your hardware should be updated this way thru the manufacturer. sure xp includes basic software that allows yer stuff to run compatibly thru their OS, but yer much better off getting software made explicitly for yer hardware. like: motherboard, hard drive, cd drive, dvd drive, even yer whatsitcalled drive...errr.. floppy drive.

also, you can try using compatibility mode on yer shortcut.

*uses her powers of ESP*
i predict you are running XP Home! and i predict yer using the version where you just upgraded yer previous OS to XP.
just about every gamer i've run into on gaming tech forums report problems with the upgrade as the number one source of their problems.
you can always backup yer music, videos, gamesaves, etc on cds, then try converting yer drive from FAT32 to NTFS.

but either way, this is the lot pcgamers take on. hey, take pride in the fact that with all this troubleshooting yer learning a lot about yer system. soon you can join the ranks of gamers who build and tweak their own machines.

*remembers when she thot she'd never get it figgered out, waaaay back in the old days. before she built her first network*

good luck! i hope it's something super simple.

oooh! i just had an idea...

go into yer system properties and turn yer SOUND hardware acceleration completely OFF! that means sliding the slider all the way to the left.

that might help!

Hmmmm Let me start with Vesselle (spelling may be wrong ).

This system started with XP Pro from the ground up.
I had it installed all brand new when I bought the system.
As for drivers... I check every Friday of every week with all of them and Microsoft so they are all current. The CD is a dvd reader also I got mail from the company giving me hard stats on it yesterday. I will read DVD also.

In general all is current. Also I had the chance of installing W8 on a Toshiba lap top this week and it had a CD/RW/DVD in it that was only 4 days old. It was all current and the same thing happened!!!!

It is nice for you to try so hard and I for one TOTALL appreciate it! Not just you but everyone!

Thanks all we may find something yet! I am looking for a boot-strap for the desktop also. This would jump right past the auto detect routine and into the game file.
