Just a quick question for those of you who may know...

Is the only way to get new spells to buy them from people who sell them? Or can you learn spells from scrolls?

(Plz, no spoilers in response because I am not that far into the game yet)

1) If playing by game default, almost all the spells you attain are from buying spells. However, ...

2) No sadly you can not learn from scrolls.

You can go to a spellmaker and make your own custom spells with the spells you have acquired. This is much better since you can customize them to suite your skill level for better successful spellcasting. Or enchant the items with the spells you have acquired.

Handy hint: create a spell with as low a casting cost as possible without regard to damage or usefulness-- it must apply to 'self' or 'target', don't think 'touch' will work-- for each magic school you plan to use. Name them things like 'practice destruction', just so you don't accidently use them in combat-- they won't be very strong.

Then you can head out to the wilderness and cast away till you've used all your magica. Since the game counts each casting without regard to the level of the spell, you can boost your magic skills faster and cheaper than buying training.
