You know, I haven't played both Gothic and Gothic 2, although I have read some good reviews about both games. Maybe I should give it a go after all..

I don't know if there is any difference between the US and the UK version but I have finished Gothic 2 UK version 5 time already.

1. Paladin
2. Mercenary / Dragon Hunter
3. Fire Mage
4. Paladin (95-99% sub-quests and explorations)
5. Mercenary / Dragon Hunter (95-99% sub-quests and explorations)

In any case, I think the Paladin class is quite awesome.

Just got it but was in the middle of Homeworld 2 so didn't do much with it except wander around the tower. I'm not sure I like the controls and the graphics aren't much to write home about but I've read that it's the rpg elements of the gothic series that make it so great... so I'm going to give it a serious try. (didn't care much for Morrowind when I first played, and that turned out to be a decent game).

You are right. It is the element of the RP that makes this game so addictive. Anyway, I prefer the old keybaord control for combat because it has a certain "feel" to it and I have the feeling of a direct control of my avatar, rather than to click, click and click until enemy is dispatched.

Make no mistakes about it, this game requires tremendeous amount of RAM to run smoothly. From what I read from other boards, you need at least 512 MB of RAM to run the game smoothly. But if you intend to maxed out the 3D effects, you will need at least 1 GB of RAM or something.
