Couple a stupid questions here: what is the right ammo for the zip gun? and what are the best weapons (range and melee) for Myles and my gadgeteer (we just entered the Rapax Rift)?
Thanks.

Zip gun takes musket bullets. As for Gadgeteer ranged go with Omni-Gun (lol think thats it, its the gun they come with) awesome damage on that thing at higher levels, not to mention pretty decent accuracy. As for melee, I would just go with a shield and a 1 hander, don't even train skills in it. Let it go up by itself. But the omnigun will be outdamaging the melee weaps. Shield is just for added ac. For Myles, I don't usually keep him in my party, but I think I gave him poison dagger in secondary, and doublestrike dagger in primary, cant be sure though.

I don't generally give a gadge a melee weapon: it just slows the modern weapon developement. Omni-gun can fire any projetile by the end of the game: an omni firing 4 or 5 mystic arrows per round is VERY impressive.

Myles isn't worth having, IMHO. Vi, Madras, and RFS all more useful, if you MUST have an NPC. Really though, they are all just exp. parasites.

However, if you do plan on keeping Myles, give him dual thieves daggers. You'll miss out on ranged combat (you could give him potions and powders if you want), but he'll more than make up for it with his melee damage

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I DO agree that Myles is useless and I am getting sick and tired of his "why did you let me die..." line. Vi left me when I went into the Rift and I thought Myles would be a little help. Anyway, I'll try the other suggestions, especially since I'm in this firefight on the way back with the Staff of Ash I'm having trouble winning (lots of magic users).

Well, aside from Myles not going to many areas, he was kick-a$$ with the Bloodlust sword. He WAS way better than my fighters at the time.

That was the sword, not its wielder: Bloodlust is priceless in the early going! Try giving it to a samurai, sometime: the extra swings its 'beserk' attack mode gives him will pump his sword skill like you won't believe.

I think it is a good idea to give the gadgeteer a sword/shield switch from the omni gun.

This is especially true if u plan expert and/or if u play in smaller parties.

The reason being that in expert mode in say a 4-person party...a gadgie get plummeted in melee without a sheild. In 6 or 8 person party u can stick the gadgie in the middle and he'll be safe...but in a 3-4 man party everyone will get hit...hence a shield is invaluable.

Another reason being that the gadgie doesn't have that many skills to develop, ranged combat, modern weapon, engineering and eagle eye and reflextion. So if u run out of places to dump skill points, instead of pumping mythology or artifacts...pump shield instead for extra protection.

Lastly, Gadgeteer if played right is really versatile. Imagine a gadgie with mk12 omigun from range, a light sword and a light shield for switch...and a full arsenal of gadgets. U have a fighter/ranger/caster all roll into one.

Good points, fung, although ALL casters and Gadgeteers should develop the shield skill. I gave my Gadgeter both Light items and he did plenty o'damage combined with his gun. Shields don't just add AC, they also allow you to block weapons which is an additional defense.

Heh, it's not like there's very little experience available in Wiz 8. The two best RPCs IMHO in the game are Vi and RFS, considering the places they can go and their class.
