I'm wanting to do a party of the 4 spell casters. Mage,Psi, Prist,Alch.
A party that is 95% magic. My question is, what if i was to use hybrids as just pure casts? Even if i max out INT, and PIE will they be as good as real casters? Will they learn to master the spells slower? I thought the higher the INT, to more you get spellpoints, or does class have more to do with it To sum it up, which party would be best? The 4 spellcasters casting heavy magic, or 4 hybrids with semi okay equiment vs not as well spell casting Any thoughts or advice always welcome happy gaming WIZARDRY 8 > FABLE |

1. Pure casters start with magic, Hybrids wait to L5
2. Pures get a 20% bonus to their respective Spellbook, which means they get better faster, and better overall. 3. Pures level faster by needing fewer XP. However, they get much fewer HP, can't wear very much, and there are only a few good weapons for them. (only Priest can use DE, and there's only one Doom to give one of the others) I ran a Duo of Alchemist/Priest, that was fun, but kinda tough here and there. I've also had Mages and Psionics in various other groups, but i haven't run all 4 pures together, whereas i have run a few parties with all Hybrids. Hybrids make the game easier, but if you like magic, go for the 4 Pures! |

In addition to Scatter : You can use the Ebon Staff too. And, of course, the wand or staff from the T'Rang for the Psionic ( sorry, forgot its name ).

Mindblast rod: When whick3 wants to play a 95% magic party, melee skill is not important. But the activation is very useful in this playing style.
Hybrids: They have the additional disadvantage that they need more skill points at character creation. For a magic-heavy party, you need powercast as soon as possible. Changing professions: I played two parties where i started my spellcasters as pure casters (mage, priest, alchemist). At level 11, i stopped taking levels, and went to the rapax areas. When i had enough XP for five more levels, i took them: changed profession to samurai/valkyrie/ranger, and got them up to level 5 immediately. I continued to play them like pure spellcasters (didn't even use better weapons), but each of them had an infinity helmet in addition to the robes of rejuvination. No more resting for mana. |

Two of them can use a shield. I would choose that well over a 2 handed weapon. They'll need the defense and they'll mostly be casting anyway. I found 2 Light Shields in my last game. You could pretty much put those 2 in the front at that point.
The other 2 can go in the back with polearms.

Or the two in back could have a Cat (and maybe Philo) and a Doom instead of the poles they have no skill for...

I rarely use Elementals due to them not doing what I want them to! Wish you could control them.
I know you can use them as meat shields but they then get in the way when you want to get up close and personal. I remember trying to kill the Don and the Elemental got in the way in the doorway (I had already killed whatshisname in the previous room). Perhaps my strategy on how to use them is wrong? |

No they do do what they want. If you haste them they can be effective but mostly they are meat shields.
