Just started playing this game, I tried it last summer but found it terribly confusing so I returned it, but wanted to try it again and like Mel Isaw it in the $5 bin so I got it.

Anyway, no manuals here either and I can't for the life of me find a healing potion, the potions all have strange names, and I can't get any info on what they do.

My character is a Knight, just started playing and I'm on my way to Balora.

Your alchemy skill relates directly to what you know about potions, and the ingredients used to make them.

Potions are also grouped according to grade and quality. You can usually decipher which potions are good to keep, and which aren't by their picture. Bargain and cheap potions usually aren't worth buying, but hang onto them if you manage to find them.

Considering you're playing a knight-type, I'd suggest you keep a small abundance of Restore Health and Restore Fatigue potions. It's also wise to have a reasonable agility score, as it determines how often you're knocked down in combat (I believe).

Well, that's all I know. It's been quite a while since I've played myself, but most of what I said I know is true. At least, in my experience.

You won't know what any potions do unless you buy them, or you have some alchemy skill. As you alchemy skill goes up you know more about potions and ingredients (like stuff you find on plants). Trial and error is always a good system . You probably can't afford training in alchemy at the moment. You will be able to buy healing potions at the mages guild in Balmora (I'm fairly certain).

Healing potions have red liquid, although in any story you will be able to see the name displayed. Mages guilds are your best bet..usually one person does different things - one will sell alchemy stuff, one will sell potions etc etc, so hunt around each guild.

As well as the mages guild, if you can find a shop like the Outfitter in Balmora then they will have some.

Other potions include rising force (levitation) which is quite handy.

Fortify potions (i believe) increase your stats temporarily whilst restore potions bring them back to normal levels if they've been drained. You can find out a drained stat because they will be red on your inventory. Examples of these would be fortify strength and restore strength.

LOL - those are alcoholic drinks. They do affect your abilities - again when your alchemy increases you'll be able to see what they do. Oh and also, eating ingredients raises your alchemy too IIRC

heh, no wonder I felt funny after trying them...

Anyway, I'm liking this game more and more. Joined the Fighters Guild and I'm a Journeyman right now, going on a quest to the Caldera mines... it sounds tough.

Anyway I came across a Goblin like creature called Scramp or Scalp or something, can't remember. And as innocent as it looked it beat my poor knight into pulp, no matter how I hewed at it I always got "Weapon ineffective". How do you kill that, I also broke into a family grave (very uncharacteristic for a knight I know, and found a ghost and barely escaped from it, what beats these creatures?

You need a better sword ( silver sword and above? can't remember ) or the ones that are enchanted. those monsters have resistance to normal sword.
