help with Ilunibi quest?

Ive been sent on the quest to investigate the sixth house base in the Ilunibi caves. Ive been through the caves and killed Dagoth Gaves - he had a note about going to red mountain from Dagoth Ur -

BUT when i report back to Caius or the woman at the fort they dont recognise that ive done the quest so -
1) ive missed something (there was a tunnel blocked by boulders with a room visible betond)
or
2)im the victim of a bug

Can anyone help me?

1. Forget about the blocked tunnel, it has nothing to do with the quest and BTW, I read somewhere that it is empty anyway.

2. Bug? Maybe. Just before you kill the high priest, he should talk to you. Exhaust all the topics and before you kill him. Just before he died, he will put a curse on you and you will be inflicted with corpus disease; which triggers the next quest - to find the cure. If you happened to kill him before he can initiate conversation, you will miss the trigger and the quest can not be completed.

Or maybe you overlooked and did not kill him. Try to go back to the place and give a thorough search. Make sure you kill everyone there. If you have killed him before he has the chance to initiate conversation, you will have to reload you old savegame before entering the cave.

3. If you have killed him and you do not have a savegame, use the console command to respawn him. This time, make sure that you only kill him AFTER he has the chance to initiate conversation.

you OUGHT to have corpus disease when you kill Dagoth Gaves ( talk to him first ) and then report to caius. if you didn't catch that disease. reload your game.

Yep, I killed him without talking to him!

I entered the caves on the assumption that everything in there was nasty and would try to kill me.

My character uses sneaking and missile weapons primarily so I shot everything from distance including Dagoth Gares!

I have tried to respawn him but he immediately attacks me.

How was I supposed to know!

The closes save game is from AGES ago so I'm gonna have to restart.

Let this be a warning to everyone to save the game (not quicksave) regularly!

If he attacks you, do you get the disease? Cause that's what you need (and he has a note on his body about what he says anyway....

I know this is a long shot but you might want to give it a try:

1. Activate console mode and respawn him.

2. Cast "Calm Humanoid" on him. If this spell doesn't work on him, try "Calm Monster". If you manage to pacify him, talk to him and exhaust all the available topics.
