"Slackerboy's Soul-Gem-O-Matic"

You will need:
(1) soul gem (preferably of a value of 400 or greater)
(1) weapon you are most proficient in (Doesnt need to be too expensive, just strong enough to kill a beastie quickly)
(1) soul trap spell (you can get this from the woman in the mage guild in balmura that lets you travel)
(1) a decent enchantment skill ( i believe mine was 31 )

Now Enchant your weapon with the soul trap spell,
give it a duration of 20 or longer
and an area of 2
Have it "Cast when strike"

Now fill your pocketses with lost of pretty little empty soul gems and run around wacking beasties.

From personal esperiance:
mud crab = petty soul gem 50
slaughter fish = petty soul gem 100
Kwama Forager = petty soul gem 150
scuttle = petty soul gem 100
(wild) guar = petty soul gem 200
Cliff Racer = petty soul gem 200
Kagouti = petty soul gem 200
Skeleton Warrior = petty soul gem 300
Hunger = lesser soul gem 1000
Bone Walker = lesser soul gem 3000

(this guide assumes you have plenty of empty soul gems. I found that once your level gets up a little bit all the tombs are full of bonewalkers which carry empty soul gems. Happy hunting )

For those of you so inclined, you may want to do a quick save before you start the enchantment process, so if it fails you can start over, you can also work your way up for longer and longer durations this way. the longer the duration the longer your chance of killing it while the spell is in effect.

I have also found it works ok to just hit the beast with that sword and, if the spell casts, switch to a more power full weapon and kill them quickly.

It would seem that the more valuable the soul gem the more charges you get, mine has like 20 charges.

The amount of charges isn't dependant on the Soul gem you use, but on the creature you kill. A Kagouti in a pretty gem has the same amount as a kagouti in a Grand gem. That being said, only the better gems can hold high level monsters. You can't stick a Golden Saint into a minor gem for instance.

I keep an assortment of petty, lesser, and grand gems. the sword atomaticly puts them in the smallest gem possible. If your out of petty ones dont use it to kill rats or whatever. I prefer killing stuff in the tombs they make great soul gems. so far 300 seems to be the limit for the petty soul gems.

Tombs are great. Those ghosts go down pretty easy but give you a sweet 200 charges.

I havent seen a ghost in a tomb in a while.
all i get are lesser and greater bonewalkers, and ocassionaly a
bonelord. some times a Hunger. Of course if i see a bonelord i run like a madman. I also carry a lot of restore strenght potions for those greater bonewalkers, they really kill your strenght.

At some point in the quest Cassius will send you to clear out a 6th House. In doing so you will contract a sickness and have to go to a mage tower for the cure (i'm trying to be as general as possible here). While you are there, pick the locks on everything you can. In a closet is a set of light armor, with a rating better then Glass, and it confers a constant 60% magic immunity. Great for dodgeing those curses the BoneLords throw at you.
