I have been playing pen and paper games for years, and being very bored these days, I thought I would take a look at what online roleplaying games look like.

But the problem is, that I looked around a little, and all I can see are chat threads. No offence to social roleplayer, but is there any "real" roleplaying around here, with dices, monsters, and all? Or are things not working like that in online rpgs?

Thanks!

I think that's a good idea, and ideally, that's the way I'd play RPGs online too. The problem is that I don't think it would be very practical. People could lie about die-rolls or not be accostumed to the different ways in which people play Pen and Paper D&D etc.

Welcome to the RP forum, Luvian!

I'm also a died in the wool PnP gamer and so I can appreciate how unusual the diverse playing styles here can look at first glance. There are games here that involve DMs, combat with monsters and some dice rolling -- sometimes one has to delve a bit into a given thread to find these elements, however, as there is at times a necessarily more conversational element to play by post gaming just to get things up and running and to introduce the characters to one another. Unlike PnP gaming groups, participants in the threads here sometimes only have the posts in the game to get to know one another and to settle into a style of play that is agreeable to all.

I can give you links to a couple examples of combat from threads I'm currently involved in. The first is here. There are a couple storylines running through the second thread, so I apologize if you find it confusing to follow the thread of the fight, as posting rates require the stories to weave in and out of one another.

Once again, welcome to the RP forum. Hopefully you'll decide to stick around and jump into a game.

It is true that some people conduct role-plays as a turn-based fantasy novel that is being written by all participants. Other people get together and do role-play with a story leader that controls dice throws from his end when needed. There is one that Mistral and I created called Arcania's Fall that I hope to revive soon. We never really go that one going due to time constraints from participants and all. Sazerac is a lead bad-guy in it! Hopefully, I can get it going...but until then...why don't you create your own dice-rolling game? It probably won't take long to get participants...maybe a day or two.
The hardest part about this forum is that participants are from all part of the world, and log in whenever possible. Sometimes, I find myself waiting days for a person to reply to a question that I asked his/her character. But, then there also people on here that log on as much and as long as possible.

By the way, Cyril has a link to a website that is for dice-rolling, RPG style.

I was thinking of doing that, but first I want to learn more about online roleplaying.

It's simply a link to an online dice rolling engine provided by Irony Games. Here it is.

I totally agree. I used to RP on here a long time ago, and I have also done some RP's on chat programs, and also another forum that Neb DM'd.

Now, i just get bored. I want a proper one, where a DM uses dice and shows dice rolls, as close to PnP as possible.

Then I'll rejoin!

Dude, I am playing in two of them, and K. Spree is running another!
I also have two newly joined friends that have Dm'ed for their whole lives...and they are looking for the opportunity to start kicking ass here.

Believe me, we got what you're looking for...but the DM's need to know who's intersted.

Well I've got several games of my own if you want to take a look, the first one is about Comedians and Judges, and is mostly a social game, it's here and you sign up for it here Next is my game based on Phantasy Star Online which is here theres also my melting pot game series here which is good ol' fasioned D&D, and then there's my new Experinmental Flight Game which I came up with just a few minutes a go Have a go, and have fun...

Another game I REALLY recomend for some seriouse role playing is This one because you pretty much write yourself into the story and the cahracter so far have been following a fairly good direction from the DM and arent straying from the path.

Pretty good stuff.. there's also the Ravenloft game We of Destiny

and some others which arent social, as for the rest... well ... social is popular... just look at how much the SIMS sold
