I have been invited to play in a game with my brother-in-law and some friends, and it is an e-mail game. After being turned down for my half-vampire character and my ghost character, I finally hit upon a Mimic, and was accepted into the game.
The background rules of the game are that I have to be a high-school student and the game is taking place in a school of specially gifted people. In other words, it is a school full of wierdos like aliens, magi, shape changers and cyborgs. I want you to see my character and let me know what you think of him. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as my friends and brother-in-law pride themselves in being serious professional role-players. Name: Xerox Campaign: C.H.A.O.S. Description: Xerox is a Mimic, who was created from birth in a secret laboratory by scientists. They kept him hidden from the world and was raising him to be the perfect spy and agent for whoever was the highest bidder. Yet, the scientists overlooked Xerox's ability as a means for his own escape from them. When he turned 15, and realized that he was nothing but a tool and property of alot of mean people, he managed to formulate a plan to get out of his "jail". In less than 24 hours, he had gathered the hair follicles of several members of the military's crew. With the combined strengths that each one held, he was able to escape as well as cause alot of confusion in the agency's ranks, as they could no longer see what was reality and what was not! Xerox has come to this school, hoping to learn how to fit into society, have his own identity, and it happens to be the safest place from the organization's agents that are trying to recover their "property". Cliches: Mimic Infiltration (4) Acting (4) Spy (2) Linguist (2) Hook: Xerox has to receive a DNA sample from a live person in order to survive. This can be done by touch or ingestion of a discarded sample that is no less than 24 hours old. If he does not get a sample within 24 hours of his last change, his molecular structure will degenerate, killing him in 12 hours from the beginning of degeneration. Tale: Xerox has the hopes that he can learn to be his own person, and that others will recognize him as an individual. This is a challenge for both sides, as he does not have his own face, nor is he the most popular in school, as he is thought of as a thief by some. In order to make a name for himself and be recognized as Xerox and not the person he looks like, he always wears black leather gloves. This would prevent accidental shape theft in case he had to touch another person such as shaking hands or anything else that would put him in contact with a person's DNA sample. If he is not wearing the gloves, then nobody would know by appearance who the mimic was. Thus, Xerox spends most of his time listening to gossip and learning about people and their daily activities, in case the need arose to take on another shape to get by an obstacle. He tries to keep a sample or two handy in case of emergency. Total: 12/12 dice By the way...don't let me catch anybody playing this character on this forum without my permission. I will be playing him myself in an upcoming game. Yet, I will allow anyone that asks the permission to create something similar, but not an exact copy. Thank you. |

well, interesting character. you mind me doing some analysis?
Xerox grew up in a scientist lab until age 15, so he lived his early age in a moral vaccum. A thief cannot be a perfect thief if he has no commen sense, so it is reasonable that his mentors give him intense courses about the outside world. he maybe very knowledgable on everything, as it is required for a perfect spy, but he actually has "little" experience. As a child he has no control of what was done to him, certain mechanism must be shut down in order to survive the brutal reality. He could be very distance and cold, and it is very possible for him to be an emotionally unstable person, as there is so much repressed anger. there has to be something to keep him alive when he was young, what? could be that he gave himself a sense of hope of the outside world, maybe he will want to live to see the outside so he strives to survive each day. and some interesting twist would be good too. it is reasonable that he has never received a lot of human affection, thus something like a touch or hug would make jump on his feet, or shock him, or allergy this charater will have a lot of torment. the world has not been a nice place to him, it is easy for him to walk the destructive road. good luck playing him |

As for the name, were you looking at a photocopier by any chance ?? ![]() (im probably wrong with most of these... but it was fun anyway ![]() |

Hey! Thanks for the help, Thing!
As for the others, since I don't have a TV nor have read the mentioned books, I cannot admit to taking any ideas from them. This was seriously just a made up character. My problem is that I don't know if he will be too hard to play. I mean, if he really was created from birth to be a mimic, how would he know if he was originally male or female, if he has never known an original face and figure? There are many problems such as this that will give me a lot of sleepless nights trying to run him/her/it.!!!

Well, the gender problem doesn't really have to be a problem. The mimic might have dismissed his worries about that some years ago, or the scientists might have 'removed' the thought. After all, they didn't really have a use for such thoughts in a spy's head. Instead they would have trained for things such as a good memory, used a combination of magic and technology to implant sight and hearing enhancement devices and so on. Another thought would be the creature doesn't even note the differences between males and females, much like most of us can't determine the gender of a bug, or birds, or most other creatures. If it really hasn't seen that much of the world Xerox wouldn't really know.
Of course, there's no telling how much time Xerox has spent out in the world. It's got the name, location and function of the school, and obviously that must have come from somewhere. It could have had tons of interesting adventures already, which have helped shape it's identity and distinguish the males from the females. One of Xerox' biggest desires might be to find that out, possibly by going back into the lab and finding data about himself, in particular about his early years. There may even be other mimics there, just like Xerox, and you'd have the setting for another campaign. The biggest problem will probably be it's character. Xerox seems to be relatively naief, but at the same time it's being hunted and has found out that what he considered his entire world before he escaped has turned against him. That would leave him scared or embittered, and at the same time there's the wonder he feels at seeing all these new and different places. That's a lot of emotions for a new character, and this is before he even knows anyone at the school. By the way, I agree about the character trait. One obvious reaction would be that the colour white scares it (if the scientists wore white robes), or maybe some other colour. Xerox may be very careful about touching someone, or see it as a way to discover it's identity. By taking on many different shapes it might believe it could determine what aspects of that form feel most natural to it. All in all, you've a very complicated character, but Xerox is also very interesting and a lot of fun if you play it right. |
