I've played through SOA with theives before, but also neglected the Detect Illusion ability. Can someone tell me how it works and whether it's worthwhile putting a decent number of points in?
I'm hoping for a permanent True Sight, but expecting less |

It says in the manual, if i can remember right, that dectect illusions is automatically engaged when u go into Find Traps mode. Depending on how high ur value is dictates what level of illusion u can dispel, i think secret doors also come into this catagory. Hope this helps.

It's sad that Bioware missed the oh-so-obvious improvement of having Thieves always Detect Traps, just as their default mode of walking around, unless they're doing something like fighting or being in Stealth.

quote: If you get it up to 100% or more, it is a permanent True Sight. Well, permanent, that is, in so far as your Thief won't be able to do anything else as long as he is detecting traps/illusions. Still, IMO a VERY useful skill for any Thief. |

quote: Hrm...I think I'll throw 100 points into this skill when I level up more to see how it fairs, if I can remember. Sounds really great to have a perma true sight ability for a rogue. I only have one dislike about using skills for rogues. I can't stay hidden in shadows while looking for traps. If this could have been done, then I think I would roleplay em a bit more. The hide in shadows is good for recon of hostiles npcs, but there is no means to detect traps and stay hidden I think...haven't tried using valuable invisibility potions for this - not really warranted when we have reloads to work with. I wouldn't even mind a high level ability that allows me to stay hidden and detect or set traps. That imo should be the forte of rogues. I'm dabbling with an old Lords of Magic game and the rogues there can even use their skills to bring in party members cloaked. They can even stay hidden and detect other rogues in the area. Not a big fuss, but when you play different games that have neat features, you would think one of your favorite games would have incorporated most of these things to actually make it your best game.
