it took me about 2 hours to finally kill him, but when i did, it was unbelievable easy, and i was sitting there wondering why i couldnt have done it 20 reloads ago

in the end i totally changed my tactics, and tried to kill him with spells instead of buffing my tanks and debuffing him

i had minsc, aerie, and jaheira cast 2 dooms each while keldorn, yoshimo, a fire elemental, and 2 giant spiders took hits from firkraag

me (wild mage) casted greater malison twice, because the first time his magic resistance snubbed it, and then spook twice for the same reason

about 3 of the dooms werent resisted, so thats -6 to saves, greater malison is -4, and spook is...umm...i think its -1 to saves every 2 levels for a total of -6, or something like that...i was lvl9, so that would be -4?(way too early but i reeeally wanted carsomyr for keldorn) total of about -14 to saves for firkraag

then i casted chromatic orb until it wasnt resisted and he just rolled over and died! LOL

but the funny thing is, the reload before this one...i used the same strategy...but being a wild mage, casting level randomly goes up and down...and he got petrified instead of dying, and there was no carsomyr! it wasnt funny at the time, but now it is

most of my chars were lvl10 or under, and it was normal difficulty

Congrats!
Most of the battles in the game are like this until you figure out what to do.Once you find the "soft spot" then it is a piece of cake!
LOL i remember when i took on Kangaxx for the first time...

Kudos!!!

Very impressive for the Level you were at. I didn't (and still don't) go for Firkraag until Level 11+.

Deathcow,

First, CONGRADULATIONS!

Second, Spook: it has a saving throw penalty only versus its own effect, which is to scare a monster. It has NO effect on later saves.

I did it with my lv 16 sorcerer
Summoned some Swords of Mordikaiden, while the red one tried to kill them, I did loer res. Then it was Abi Dalzim three times. Alas, he killed my swords, so Minsc and Krogan got to finish him of.

oh, i mustve read it wrong, nifft...i guess ill stop using spook when im trying to lower their saving throws now lol

i think i couldve done it at an even lower levl, all i needed was greater malison (lvl 4 spell?), a few dooms (lvl 1 spell), and chromatic orb (lvl 1)

wait, i just realized that chromatic orb doesnt kill at low levels... there goes that idea...i mustve gotten a +4 casting level to get it to kill him, so maybe im just really lucky

I´ve tried walking into the heat of battle and getting totally wasted with lvl 13 parties just because the tactic was unsound!
THEN...I took my lvl.15 monk (In a solo game) and tried it...and WaddaUnow...Big Ol Red dropped dead after two punches...POW POW Bruce Lee go home!!!
